Hamstring Injury

Hamstring Injury

Hi Liz,

From last three days I was on bed rest due to back pain particularly on the left back region.
The pain was intense that little bit of movement was diffcult.
I showed to my doctor and subsequently an X-ray was taken and it was diagonased as Hamstring on the left thigh.
I was suffering from the same problem last 1 & 1 1/2 years and even got it checked from a back pain specialist who checked with the help of digital X-ray and reported it to be hamstring.
Currently;my family doctor checked the old X-ray and new X-ray and said it is an hamstring injury.
Recommended to hot water treatment, massage and strecthing.

Liz; please adivce as I fear this would limit my cricketing activities.
Please revert back for any other information u require.

Re: Hamstring Injury

Bad luck mate.

Did it get ripped off the bone? They're hard to come back from.

Look at this, great stuff by young Jetta (AFL player). Tears his hammy then dodges a player and kicks the ball, top stuff.

Anyway best of luck for your recovery.

Re: Hamstring Injury

Hi Virender,

I am really sorry I missed this post; it cannot be too pleasant for you.

Did the doctor say what kind of hamstring injury you suffered?

Re: Hamstring Injury

Nothing much.
All he said was that u need to do stretching and hot water massage..
Medicine and surgery is of no help.
One thing he said that hamstring imjury has ruined many cricketer's careers.
Hearing that i scared to hell as i wish to continue at least couple of years.
LIZ, Please help?

Re: Hamstring Injury

Without knowing the exact type of injury Virender it is hard to be specific. Have another look at : http://www.simplycricket.net/showthread.php?t=965
...from the beginning and follow as many stretches as you can.

Squats are good for the hamstrings too, as long as you keep the lower leg perpendicular to the ground so your knees do not move forward.

It is true that the hamstrings can make or break a sportsperson and I find it sad that people rarely take this area as seriously as they should; tight hamstrings, along with restricted flexibility in the thorasic spine cause all kinds of lumbar issues.

Make sure you warm up before you stretch and make sure you perform good, dynamic flexibility exercises before you train, play etc.
