Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

A couple of changes for both teams due to injury, etc.

It doesn't really matter though, as Canada have already clinched first place in the group and a spot in the final. Both teams are playing this with an eye on next year's WCL and World Cup.

Canada won the toss and chose to bat.

Chumney and Jyoti opening for them, 9-0 after 3 overs.

Here's a good article detailing many of the team changes:
Changes at the top for Intercontinental Cup clash

Both captains are out.

From the CricketEurope commentary:
- For The Netherlands, Billy Stelling and Tim de Leede have been declared unfit, and miss this match. That means that Szwarczynski, de Grooth and van Nierop will all play, while Mark Jonkman comes into the side and will make his first-class debut.
- Canada, too, have just eleven fit players: George Codrington and Abdool Samad have flown home, and Sanjay Thuraisingam is unfit. Qaiser Ali takes over the captaincy, and Steve Welsh makes his first-class debut.

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

Jyoti out early, that's an early one for ten Doeschate.

Canada 10-1 after 5

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

oops, Canada lost 3 wickets right before lunch, including 2 in the last 2 balls.

Kashif will be on a hat trick when the lunch break is over.

Canada 84-5 after 29.4 overs.

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

HAT TRICK for Kashif!

Canada 84-6 after 29.5

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

Ryan ten Doeschate takes 2 wickets at the start of the next over, now he's on a hat trick!

Canada 85-8 after 30.2

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

He missed the hat trick, but got a wicket on the very next ball!!!!

Canada 87-9 after 31 overs!!!!

They lost 6 wickets in 2 overs!!!

Kashif got a hat trick and ten Doeschate took 3 wickets in 4 deliveries!
Amazing!

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

They've taken all 9 wickets so far today, ten Doeschate with 5 and Kashif with 4.

Ooh, a couple sixes from Osinde here.
Canada 102-9

This won't last long.

Canada are lucky they already qualified for the final!

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

Osinde bowled by ten Doeschate.

That's 6 for ten Doeschate!

Canada all out for 103 after 36.2

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

Wow Canada forget how to play cricket!!

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

From the CricketEurope commentary:
Great bowling from ten Doeschate and Kashif, and some rather ordinary batting from the Canadians.
But there are some serious questions about this pitch! let's see how the Dutch bat on it.

Yeah, but look at their line-up from their last Intercontinental Cup match compared to this one:

versus Bermuda: Davison, Barnett, Heaney, Billcliff, Bagai, Ali, Dhaniram, Samad, Bhatti, Osinde, Ravishankar

today, versus Netherlands: Chumney, Jyoti, Bagai, Ali, Mulla, Dhaniram, Maxwell, Bhatti, Welsh, Sandher, Osinde

Look at all those top players missing: Davison, Barnett, Heaney, Billcliff, Samad, Ravishankar.
Not to mention the missing Codrington.

Suffice it to say, Canada will be hoping to field a much stronger team for their future matches.

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

Tea,
Netherlands 107-1 after 19 overs.

ten Doeschate is already up to 60!

This is turning into total domination for Netherlands.

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

The Netherlands will win this match by a lot. Granted Canada are missing probably 4 of their top 5 batsmen, but you would expect them to put up alittle more of a fight than THAT. From the comments about the pitch, it seems like a huge mistake to bat first on it....maybe Ali doesn't have the pitch-reading skills seeing as how he is not the regular (or secondary) captain.

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

It's lunch on Day 2, Netherlands are 350-8, a lead of 247 runs so far.

Ryan ten Doeschate is up to 210 from 271 balls!

What an absolute talent he is! At one point yesterday Netherlands were 159-6, but Borren, Smits, and now Jonkman are hanging around long enough to give ten Doeschate all the time he needs to score these runs. First he takes 6 wickets, then he scores 210 runs. How often does anyone have the man of the match award locked up by lunch of day 2. Or actually, he already had that locked up at stumps on Day 1. Amazing.

Would anyone care to argue that he's currently the best Associate player in the world?
It's either got to be him or Tikolo. Is anyone else even in the discussion?

It's hard to argue with that. ten Doeschate is definitely one of the best Associate batsmen, if not the best. His first-class bowling average is ordinary (in the low 40s), though, but it will probably go down several runs after this match). It's interesting that ten Doeschate and Mohammad Kashif took all 10 wickets in the first innings and have accounted for none of the first five wickets to fall in the second.

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

At stumps on day 2, Canada reach 194/5. Acting Captain Qaiser Ali is the top scorer with 76 not out, and they had a promising partnership with Ashish Bagai snuffed out on an lbw. Canada trail by 112 runs with just 5 wickets in hand. This match is all but over, in my estimation. Realistically Canada would need to bat all day tomorrow, scoring 300-odd runs to have any shot to win.

I was looking at that yesterday, and think it's going to drop by about 4 runs, from 40.5 down to 36.5.

I think he took most of the afternoon off, and deservedly so. No need for him to bowl too many overs in Canada's second innings.

He finished 259 not out, a new Intercontinental Cup record.

Here's an interesting list from CricketEurope:
250 runs and 6 wickets club

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

Impressive batting from Maxwell and especially Qaiser Ali here to start Day 3. They've already added 65 runs in the first 45 minutes! Qaiser Ali is up to 103.

Canada 259-5, they still trail by 47 runs.

Re: Intercontinental Cup, Canada v Netherlands, Dec 5-8

Maxwell finally out for 72. That was a 184-run partnership!

Qaiser Ali is up to 143.

Canada 339-6, they lead by 33 runs.
