Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Another Intercontinental Cup match, this time between Kenya and Bermuda. Kenya will be looking to pick up the full 20 points to stay in the title hunt, while Bermuda will be hoping that they can pull off a surprise.

Bermuda
J Edness, AR Pitcher, RJ Trott, DL Hemp, IH Romaine, JJ Tucker, JJ Celestine, MO Jones, KAD Hurdle, RDM Leverock, T Tucker

Kenya
MA Ouma, DO Obuya, AO Suji, CO Obuya, SO Tikolo, TM Odoyo, JK Kamande, N Odhiambo, PJ Ongondo, HA Varaiya, AS Luseno

Kenya won the toss and decided to bowl. Presumably, they're hoping that they only need to bat once and will be able to skip their second innings.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Odoyo and Ongondo have shut Bermuda down so far. They each took a wicket in their first over, and since then Pitcher and Hemp have not found scoring to be easy.

Bermuda 20-2 after 11 overs.

Hemp should have been caught in the 4th over, but was lucky to be dropped.
So yeah, it could be worse.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Rain Delay in Kenya with Bermuda at 24-2.

Perhaps some teams like Ireland wouldn't mind seeing it rain for the next 3 days, preventing Kenya from getting the full 20 points from this match.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Play finally underway again after a delay of more than an hour. (Though perhaps the lunch break will be made part of that.)

Bermuda 34-2 after 16 overs.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

End of Day 1, Bermuda 232-6 after 74 overs. David Hemp is still in there on 95. He's doing his best to save Bermuda. He may run out of partners though, as there's only bowlers left. Taking that into account, it's unlikely that Bermuda will last past lunch tomorrow. (Unless, of course, there's more rain.)

But Hemp is putting up a valiant effort. He's been in there for all but the first 1.4 overs.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Day 2 has started a little early, and so far Hemp and Leverock have defended 18 straight dot balls to start proceedings. We'll see how long they stick to that strategy.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Tough luck for David Hemp, he's out for 97.
Kenya took the new ball and Hemp was out right away.
That left Bermuda at 234-7.

Since then, Dwayne Leverock and Malachi Jones have not only stuck around, but actually hit an occasional boundary too. Maybe they figure that now that Hemp is gone, there's no point in playing too slow and they might as well put a few runs on the board before they fall.

Bermuda is 257-7 after 90 overs.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

After Leverock was out for 16, Hurdle came in and scored 15 from 7 balls, but you knew that was never going to last long. Tamauri Tucker out for a duck, and that was the end of Bermuda. Varaiya took all three of those wickets, giving him 5 for the innings.

Bermuda all out for 281.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Kenya are 5/200 in reply. This game is not over yet with first innings points still up for grabs here. Still 14.2 overs left in the day's play, currently Thomas Odoyo is at the crease on 41 not out, Jimmy Kamande is on 6. Earlier, the Obuya brothers, David and Collins, both made 53. Steve Tikolo was out for just six runs.

Dwayne "The Rock" Leverock has been Bermuda's best bowler and has figures of 3/74. He's bowled 27 of the 67 overs sent down so far.

Plenty left in this game yet.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Kenya reach 5/242 at stumps on the second day. Odoyo is up to 58 and Kamande is now on 30 runs.

Only trail by 39 runs so they should get first innings point here the Kenyans. They'll be looking to bat for most of Day 3 and then maybe bowl for a session at the end of the day.

Interesting game at this point.

Now what are the odds of two brothers both making the exact same score? I suppose if they both were out for ducks that would be believeable, but both making 53 is bizarre. (and cool)

Interesting. Kenya should get the first innings lead, but it doesn't look like it'll be a huge one. Although some of their lower order should be capable of putting up decent numbers against Bermuda. Certainly Odoyo might hang around for quite a bit.

But this isn't turning out to be a huge mismatch that some might have expected. Maybe Bermuda just needed some time to get their legs under them on their tour to Kenya, as they seemed to improve a little over the course of the ODIs. If that's the case, UAE had better watch out when they host Bermuda next week in the Intercontinental Cup. Bermuda might finally be up to around 100% by then.

That was a close call.

Starting on 242-5 and trying to reach 282, Kamande was out quickly and Odoyo fell for 73, leaving Kenya at 266-7. They eventually crossed the mark, but then lost 2 wickets in the very next over to fall to 285-9. If those wickets had fallen any sooner, there would have been huge pressure on the final batsmen and Kenya may not have taken the lead.

A few overs later and Kenya was all out for 302, a surprisingly small lead of only 21 runs. But they got the first innings points, and that's what matters.

Four wickets each for Hurdle and Leverock.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Bermuda has just started their second innings, and Jekon Edness was out in the first over. Bermuda is currently 10-1 after 3 overs, but that's not the greatest of starts after picking up a bit of momentum while bowling.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Trott out in the first over after lunch.
Bermuda 15-2 and still trailing.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Bermuda is big trouble. They did well to keep Kenya's lead to only 21 runs but their batsman have let them down badly here in the second innings.

Bermuda are 7/90 which is good enough for a lead of only 69 runs. Hemp is 35 not out, the only real contributor so far. Jimmy Kamande has three wickets with Ongondo and Varaiya taking two wicket each.

There's 45.2 overs left to play, we could see a result by the end of the day.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Bermuda all out for 178. Hemp finished not out on 68.
Varaiya took 5 wickets again, giving him 10 for the match!

Needing only 158 runs to win, the Kenyan openers really attacked to finish the day. They're at 79-0 after 16 overs, with Maurice Ouma on 49.

Kenya only needs 79 more runs tomorrow, they should have it won by lunch.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

Play underway on Day 4, looks like the weather won't steal this one from Kenya.

Maurice Ouma out for 63.
Kenya 109-1 after 25 overs. They need 49 more to win.

Re: Intercontinental Cup: Kenya v Bermuda at Nairobi

David Obuya was out for 70, but Kenya reached 161-2 and won by 8 wickets.

Their first innings advantage probably wasn't quite as big as they expected, but they got the 20 points in the end, and now move into first place in the Intercontinental Cup.

UAE 2 0 1 1 3
Bermuda 3 0 0 3 0

The next match starts in just a few days, as Bermuda travels to the UAE for what could be a battle for last place.
