Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat 2009/10

Bomber, better get those covers down early this week.

Rain forecast Friday, showers forecast Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Wouldn't want to give St Andrews any reason to whinge about the weather for another 12 months!

I suppose you cant buy a run jolley, your too old and have a terrible record against glenroy. Also, In the last game of the season that 125 no.o looked very very very scratchy

I reckon that guy who used to play for st andrews bowling those right arm benders for glenroy has your measure.

Enough of the bs, lets hope both finals have full strenght teams and weather does not play a part and the best sides win.

Tips Merlo v Glenroy (beacuse if you ask them they are unbeatable and st andrws are old and cranky)

Terrible record against Glenroy,53 and 50 last two hits and it is obvious you wern't there for the last game.

Would of thought the pressure is not on St Andrews as they are to one more than ever determined.

Time will tell and then we will see if certain people can bat !!!!!!

Monday wont matter if ball gets bowled sat or sun.
Who u tipping Bobby, obviously u jumped on Glenroy after pasting them recently, what about other game?
How can an A grade final be played @ Hallam? Non stop footy training, outfield looks like primary school ground. Better grounds around than that surely?

Glenroy still with a lot to do before they win me over. Chased a good total on the weekend but most of the action was at the top of the order.

Think they are probably just a touch ahead of St Andrews. St Andrews have a very experienced batting line up. Glenroy have quality throughout but too much is left to too few. Bowling, I'm swayed towards Glenroy. St Andrews rely on Newton to get most of their wickets with good support from Scotty and Tapner. Glenroy's spread is better. Ward & Chisolm are both wicket takers and Greaney has taken bags before.

St Francis and Merylo may come down to a battle between 4 or 5 players. Babo/Eilers vs Punky/Bomber with the bat and Costello (if fit) vs Murray/Punky with the ball. Nothing against the rest just think they're the key. Probably lean towards St Francis but Merylo's form has been pretty consistent this season.

Should be an interesting weekend.

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat 2009/10

Weather for this weekend's Semi Finals isn't looking too good, but we are in Melbourne so anything can happen. In regards to tonight's tribunal, i for one agree that it has taken way too long in making a decision. I was there that day and witnessed the entire incident. There is a section in the Bi-Laws that stipulate that the game should be played in the "right spirit". I do not support EITHER team, but that "spirit" was lacking. It hasn't just been this incident, but others throughout the year where the spirit of the game has been questioned. It may be time that the association use their powers to fix this before something more dramatic happens. I don't think MMVCA would want to turn people away from this competition let alone the game of cricket! Tonight's result (if Newton gets rubbed out or not) will affect Saturday's game and i guarantee once the players cross that white line, sparks will fly.

After witnessing the Glenroy v St Francis game on Saturday and having a solid chat to Costello after the game, he was in great form for someone not 100% fit! He was only going to bowl 5 overs - 2 wickets and 10 overs later, what a gun!! My tip is Merlo to get up in a tight one and Glenroy to go into their 2nd consecutive Grand Final. I honestly hope the rain can stay away as it will be a SUPER weekend for cricket!

Good luck to all involved in the finals and i hope that cricket can do the talking instead of all this cr*p that's posted on here! :D

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat 2009/10

Sorry to say but as an old stallwart of this comp, it has now become a joke.

how can we have a situation of clubs reporting players for on field instances when an umpire is officiating, 5 weeks for a tribunal hearing to take place, clubs abusing each other on and off the field, clubs threatening to discontinue "memorial" tributes due to fighting........it all beats me. Some of the guys on here whinging should of played when things were "really" tough in this comp on the field and when players socialised afterwards. none of this coming on these forums and bagging each other etc....but actually taking the field and playing hard for your club.

personally the standard in this comp has deteriorated big time over the past 5-6 years and some players getting a game today would of been lucky to play b Grade. i wonder why the comp has only a handful of umpires.....too many players disrepct them and disrepect each other and the comp or committee are weak and do nothing about it.

time for a lot of guys to pull their heads in and focus on the cricket...not their own ego's!

Totally agree with you... there are not any bowlers around these days that have the reputation that Blacky or Snowy had..... Those guys took wickets before even bowling a ball.... I don't care what people say Newton still has a long way to go before getting even close to the above mentioned... from facing him and what I have scene... tends to bowl too short and not consistant enough..... players like Scotty and Gav Tapner are consistant bowlers and have been for years... The lack of umpires is frustrating when having to umpire your own game in B Turf.... some attitudes need changing if we want to attract umps back to the comp..

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat 2009/10

hey guys,
i believe the weather front that passed through qld this week is on its way down. i hope it has weakened because if you get half the rain we did there will be no change of any cricket this weekend.

Because of this forum and the like little things get overblown and talked about as what else do you do on a forum. I suppose why clubs would report a player when a umpire would not is an answer only Glenroy could answer as i believe its unheard of. Wonder as a club if they had there time again they would do things differently. Probably not

I agree with your sentiment that what happens on the field stays on the field and you have a beer after the game and have a chat and a laugh.

By the way, what was the result of the tribunal? not that it matters too much considering the forecast weather. Lets hoep they get it wrong again.

I think Paul was found guilty but can play this week.

Correct about Paul.

Just letting all guys know that covers can go down now, as council has completed preparing wickets. Only ground we are waiting for to be finished is DeChene. Once that is done, Moonee Valley will be contacted directly.
Hopefully clubs get them down in time.

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat 2009/10

Good to all.

Looks like a cracker of a finals series and I hope the covers got down as the rain is here already.

Would so love to be out there.

Not going to enjoy having to watch those 4 great sides go at it from the sidelines.....

Good luck to all playing and MMVCA for his big game on the weekend

Tips for this week are

Merlo to beat St Frannys - Will be a good game but i think with merlo's batting to strong for the bowling attact of St Frannys. Alot depends on the top 3 of St Frannys batting line up

Glenroy to beat St Andrews - What a cracker of a game to watch this week with all the stuff happening during the week this would be the game i was going to watch if i could. If newton bowls with his head and not the anger inside it will be a good battle between him and Parker. If he bowls with his anger Parker will hit him to every part of the ground all day. This is a 50/50 game with me picking the weather to be BOG this weekend

Tip of the week is MMVCA to make a disgracful decision on Sunday to finish the game early (Only my thoughts) good luck you blue and black magot.

This time of year is an absolute monty for weather to have a say....just hope a team isn't pressured into tossing a coin & deciding a game. Fingers crossed for a common sense decisions made by the comp & umpires so the best team wins this year!!
