My Life = Cricket

Re: My Life = Cricket

Your training schedule looks good as it is kyneo [except for the rest ;)] Do include the exercises at the end of the two links I posted for core and rotator cuff.

As for muscle fibre types, take a look at post February 09, 2008, 12:04:27 AM on the http://www.simplycricket.net/energy-systems-required-for-a-batsman-to-score-100-runs-t1924.15.html thread and come back to me if you need further answers.

Do you ever feel any uncomfortable sensations in your hips, knees and/or ankles when you run?

nah i dont think so... most pain is in my calves. what should i be doing in the gym for cricket? like strengthining what main muscles? dont just tell me core i want to know specific muscles that i can do at the gym =] thanks

You're a complex case kyneo. Before I can answer this, I need to know what your priorities are.

Firstly, [you're not going to like this ;)] you are obviously still growing and I would be negligent as a personal trainer to encourage you to go into the gym, unsupervised. As a sports therapist, I see so many guys in their 20s who have caused irreparable damage to their bodies through incorrect posture, alignment and more often than not inappropriate weights during their teens. Some have had to endure painful surgery and bone grafts just to live; sport of any kind is now out of the question for many of them. Some have had their growth cells stunted and even deformed.

Secondly, is cross country as important to you as cricket?

Re: My Life = Cricket

Just a question, do you play cricket for the enjoyment, or for success? Don't get me wrong, there is nothing I want more than to progress up the cricketing ladder, but right now I just play for fun. But that said, I wish I was as driven as you :p

Re: My Life = Cricket

Wait. So you don't plan to play for NZ?

And I do get where you are going, and like I said, I wish I was as driven as you

thanks im only running for cricket fitness. cricket = life ^^ btw im gettinga personal trainer to help me with technique but he has no clue what excersises to do for cricket so thats were i need the help

I assume you are after 'all round fitness' not just for batsmen or bowlers.

If cricket is your priority and not cross country, you need to cut down the running and increase the sprinting: http://www.harrowdrive.com/how-monitoring-your-heart-rate-can-help-your-cricket-training/

You should not consider weights until you can easily master the whole of: http://www.harrowdrive.com/free-4-week-bodyweight-training-plan-for-cricket/

This is just for starters. There are no shortcuts; if you want it... you can have it... but get it right.

Re: My Life = Cricket

Jeez Liz, having heard some of the stuff that kyneo has to say, Im pretty sure he's up for anything

Re: My Life = Cricket

Whatever you do kyneo, your Dad will be proud of you. Men don't always say or show it and sometimes portray the opposite but he will be as proud as punch.

Re: My Life = Cricket

The day when I went physco at training and smashed every ball back over his head (he was feeding the bowling machine) he was smiling all day xD.

but anyway update- i have a sore shin and a sore calve + stiff back

seeing chiropractor in week and i think i wont be doing any running and rest my calve? liz can u help =]

What were you doing to get so sore?

Re: My Life = Cricket

With respect to your back, my first question would be... What sort of warm up did you do?

I was really concerned about your calf and shin... Can you pinpoint the cause?

Re: My Life = Cricket

Yes, I think you have the cause for your back problem. I am glad you are going to the Chiropractor, it is always best to get it checked out, especially after a fall.

As for your shin, shin splits cover a multitude of causes, most just requiring rest. I am assuming the pain is in the central area and not just below the knee?

Make sure you give your lower body a good warm up before your match.

Let us know what the Chiropractor diagnoses.

Re: My Life = Cricket

You sound dehydrated; drink at least 2.5 ltrs of water a day, more if it's hot.

As for your calf, how high up the lower leg do you feel the pain?
