Northern Metropolitan Cricket Association (Jika)

Well, it's back to the two day format after a couple of the hit and giggle games over the past two weeks. But the weather may again turn these long matches into the short form if the people who gaze into the sky are right on target with their prediction for day one. We shall see.

Round 7 completed. Half way through the season, who are the favourites for the top grades???

My tip is:-

Jika - Keon Park

Quick - Darebin Chargers

Kelly - Preston Footballers

Wow! The season is nearly halfway over, with just twelve more cricket days left, excluding finals, and it doesn't seem as though we have played any meaningful cricket. It's been washout after washout and the weather forecasts again don't look too encouraging. But, we soldier on and see what we can achieve.

With two complete rounds having been washed out and others reduced to one-dayers, every win as we close in on the Christmas break is obviously important. The highlight matches this round appear to be the Rivergum vs. Northcote United game in the Jika Shield, the Darebin Chargers hosting Preston Baseballers and Preston YCW taking on Olympic Colts in the Quick Shield and Reservoir Mayston and Fiji Victorians in the Kelly Shield.

NMCA - Jika Shield - Round 8. 2Dayer. Nov27th & Dec4th, Selections Bolded.
Cobra (1-2-3)s vs. Preston Druids (1-2-3)
Lalor Warriors (1-2-3) vs. Northern Socials (3-2-1)
Rivergum (3-2-1) vs. Northcote United (2-2-2)
Keon Park (4-2-0) vs. Holy Trinity (1-2-3)

NMCA - Quick Shield - Round 8. 2Dayer. Nov27th & Dec4th, Selections Bolded.
Darebin Chargers (4-1-1) vs. Preston Baseballers (3-1-2)
Bundoora Park (2-1-3) vs. Fairfield (1-1-4)
Preston YCW Districts (3-1-2) vs. Olympic Colts (2-2-2)
Donath (2-1-3) vs. Cameron (2-2-2)

NMCA - Kelly Shield - Round 8. 2Dayer. Nov27th & Dec4th, Selections Bolded.
Preston Footballers (4-1-1) vs. Keon Park Green (1-1-4)
Reservoir Mayston (3-1-2) vs. Fiji Victorian (3-1-2)
Kingsbury (3-1-2) vs. Strathewen (4-1-1)
West Preston (0-1-5) vs. Dennis (2-1-3)

Here we go, the last round before the Christmas/New Year break. Can you believe it. And with all the cancelled and abandoned rounds let's hope that we can get two full Saturday's of cricket. What a nice Christmas present that would be !

There are some interesting matches across the three grades, with none more exciting than in the Jika Shield where the new boys in Rivergum travel to Northern Socials with the winner likely to be a clear grand final favourite alongside Keon Park who should beat Preston Druids. In the Quick Shield, Olympic Colts have an opportunity to move up the ladder if they can defeat Bundoora Park, while Strathewen and Reservoir Mayston is the highlight match in the Kelly Shield..

Northcote United (2-2-3) vs. Lalor Warriors (1-2-4)

Keon Park Green (1-1-5) vs. West Preston (1-1-5)

Keep the fingers, and whatever else, crossed for two good days of weather.

With all the bad weather one thing that we have missed this year a few times is tea time at different clubs !
The Olden Days Dennis Cricket Club were unbeliveable the best spread of all two maybe three tressle tables full , I am sure a few people remember that,m Positive they won games cause everyone was so full from afternoon tea !
Holy Trinity put on not a bad spread hot food party pies , pastries and even some mystery pastry things after the game was exceptional !
Cameron always do a great job no one can go past Ms Smiths Scones ....
I think all clubs should go back to the olden days where Dennis were cost the clubs a fortune but hey im all for the food....
At my opinion in order best spreads over last couple of years

Cameron ( Scones simply get them over the line )
Fairfield ( It was a couple years ago but not bad at all )
Holy Trinity ( Hot Food simply a winner )

From what I've been told. Darebin Chargers supply watermelon, apples and have to buy your own drinks.

Very healthy from the club wouldnt get in the votes from me tho !

I would think most clubs dont have the old cordial like the olden days buts some do once I think about it !
