Pakistani pacer sets unique record

Karachi: A Pakistani fast bowler has set a unique record of sorts in a Twenty20 domestic cricket tournament when he conceded 30 runs without bowling a single legal delivery.

In a match of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Twenty20 memorial tournament earlier this week, a Port Qasim pacer Zaid Mir had to be taken out of the attack after he failed to bowl a single legal delivery with his bowling figures reading 0-0-31-0 (10 NB).

The match was played at the Karachi Gymkhana ground with the Port Qasim side, coached by former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif, taking on the hosts in a group fixture.

"Fast bowler Zaid Mir was asked to bowl and he sent down 10 successive no balls resulting in 10 free hits to the batsmen who scored 31 runs off them," a scorer in the match said.

"Given the strange situation umpire Saleem Badr allowed Zaid to be taken out of the firing line after he officially said he had suffered a leg strain and couldn't bowl," the scorer added.

He said although Zaid was taken out of the attack, his over was completed by Khalid Latif.

The tournament is being organised under the supervision of the Pakistan Cricket Board and features some of the top first class departmental and regional teams of the country.

That is fairly awesome, just lucky that he suffered a 'leg strain'.

I have sent down 4 or 5 wides in a row (including a ball which took out the guy fielding at gully) but never 10 in a row. That is nerves and then some.

Wow, that is amazing.

Imagine how good it would be if you were the batsman receiving 10 free hits in a row!

It will be like a cake walk .....

After about the 5th or 6th one wouldn't you just decide to bowl off one step?

I guess the problem with him was his stride. I m saying so because I read this news in the newspaper. And it was mentioned there about why he kept on bowling no-balls continuously.

Nothing to be proud of, but it's T/20 after all, 31 runs of 10 free hits? Should have been 60 in my opinion, I would have slogged like there's no tomorrow!

I have a feeling that might have been done on purpose. Can never trust Pakistan cricketers with all the past and present scandals.
