Perfect back foot, not so good front

Hi, this is not for me but for my mate. He is a left-hander who opens and he is amazing on the all the cuts nd pull shots, but early in his innings he is tentative of getting forward. This causes him to try and cut full balls which makes him edge nd chip up to point. Once he gets in he plays class of the front foot nd can smash straight down the ground, powerfully cover drive and flik of his pads. But if he gets out early he obviously can't do this. How would you help him improve this,,, what methods can we use in the nets and how can a drill it into his head ( btw he thinks his technique is perfect- big suprise)
thanks phil

One way would be to get him in the nets before he goes out to bat to help him get his feet moving and his eye in.

As for net work, you need to get him having sessions when he can only use the front foot and not rely on the back foot. I seem to recall a drill when the player had their foot stuck to the ground but I'm not sure how applicable it would be in this situation.
