Super Eights - West Indies vs England

The final game of the super eight format and the final game for Brian Lara. This will an emotional game for him and for many around the globe. Arguably one of the best bastmen to ever play the game, he plays his last game tonight in front of his adoring fans.

England won the toss and decided to field first. What an error that has been so far. Chris Gayle has gone absolutely ballistic so far.

West Indies sit at 0/90 in the 13th over with Gayle already notching up 50, he has 59 from just 34 balls. His innings includes 7 fours and 3 sixes. Devon Smith has been a bit more subdued and has 22 of 43.

West Indies in a good position here, looking to send Lara out on a high.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

Gayle departs for 79. England's bowlers have done well to restrict the scoring rate for the last 10 overs. West Indies were going at over seven runs an over but it's dropped to just under 5.5 thanks to the bowling efforts of Flintoff, Collingwood and Vaughan.

They've forced Gayle to play a rash shot and now he's out.

1/131 after 24 overs.

Brian Lara walks out to the middle in his final international innings. The England players give him a guard of honour and the crowd goes absolutely nuts.

What can he do in his final game?

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

Devon Smith finally gone for 61, thanks to a brilliant catch from Collingwood.

West Indies 168-2 after 29.3

Lara has looked good so far, let's see if he can keep it up.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

Lara run out.

Wow, he really bolted up those stairs and out of sight quickly.

Samuels made a blunder there, running out the cpatain in his final game. I don't think he'll be bowling today even if he's required to. :D

Lara gets a rousing recpetion and he sprints into the changerooms.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

251-4 after 40.1

Good partnership between Samuels and Chanderpaul.
No excuse for the West Indies not to reach 300 today.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

Another good catch for Collingwood, this time he gets rid of Samuels for 51

258-5 after 42.5

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

A couple run outs in the final over, and West Indies are all out for 300

A good total, though. Let's hope their bowlers can defend it.

I'm not surprised. Samuels is not the most intelligent cricketer around, I could say more but I'll bite my tongue.

But anyway, if I'm to judge from the current trend in thought...once Lara goes Sammy will suddenly become a brilliant cricketer!

I await the genius innings in his future...

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

Yes!!!

Taylor gets smashed for a huge six, but then he comes back and bowls Pietersen with the very next deleivery!

269-7

England need 32 runs from 22 balls

After looking like England was going to steal this match, West Indies have struck back.
It's all coming down to the end here.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

Easy catch for Bravo and Taylor gets his second of the over
271-8

England need 30 from 19 balls.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

good over for Nixon, he clobbered Collymore

England need 12 runs from the last 2 overs.
They've got the upper hand in this match again.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

DWAYNE BRAVO!!!!!!

He bowls Nixon in the last over

298-9

England need 3 runs from 4 balls with one wicket remaining.
Can Bravo strike again?

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs England

England win, 301-9 after 49.5

Somewhat appropriate that West Indies come up just a bit short in Lara's final match.
