Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

Play will be starting very soon in this crucial Super Eights game. West Indies would have to win to give themselves a shot at making the semi-finals of this tournament.

So far, play has been delayed by 35 mins but we should see play start at 10:15am local time which is about 10 mins from now.

Cricinfo are telling me that there are some cracks in the pitch but it should be good to bat on although there seems to be more rain on the way.

This weather is very unlike the Carribean for this time of year. We are supposed to be in the dry season yet we keep having all this rain. It is proving to be a real annoynace for the tournament.

West Indies XI: CH Gayle, S Chanderpaul, RR Sarwan, MN Samuels, BC Lara*, DJ Bravo, D Ramdin+, DR Smith, DB Powell, JE Taylor, IDR Bradshaw

Sri Lanka XI: WU Tharanga, ST Jayasuriya, KC Sangakkara+, DPMD Jayawardene*, LPC Silva, TM Dilshan, RP Arnold, CRD Fernando, WPUJC Vaas, SL Malinga, M Muralitharan

West Indies have won the toss and have decided to bowl first. Should be a good toss to win and the Windies would be looking to take early wickets.

Glad to see Bradshaw back in the side, Taylor also come back into the team. Collymore and Simmons are the players that have been omitted.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

Tharanga is bowled by Powell for 8.

Sri Lanka 1/18 after six overs with Jayasuriya on 5.

West Indies bowlers are bowling beautifully at the moment. Games is still 50 overs per side at the current time.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

Bradshaw strikes, Sangakkara edges one to Ramdin.

2/37 in 10th over. Jayasuriya is not out on 12.

There is also a dog on the field.

cricinfo commentary said:
Martin (who wasn't the anorak earlier, by the way) says: "That was not an official ICC sanction canine and, as such, should not have been on the outfield. It is also suspected that the dog brought in its own water and did not buy it from the official outlet. This is simply dreadful ..."

Nah mate, I am dead serious.

Just after Sangakkara's dismissal...

cricinfo commentary said:
Dog stops play Oh hello, a dog runs on the pitch to cow corner ... but he bounds off. Dog gone, etc.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

Finally, Powell gets Jayasuriya, but not before he scored 115 runs.
That was coming for a while, because Jayasuriya was really looking tired out there.

SL 218-3 after 38.4

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

Jayawardene hits it straight to Dwayne Smith who drops an easy one, but then with the very first ball of the next over, Jayawardene is bowled by an excellent delivery from Dwayne Bravo.

SL 251-4 after 44.1

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

Just tuning in,after some quick early wickets, Sri Lanka looks on their way for a huge score. with only 6 overs to go and 7 wickets at hand, they'll be looking to up the run rate i'm sure.

A fine display of batting from Jayasurya.

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

289/5 after 48.6 overs.
I wonder if they would make it to 300 runs

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

291/5

This is going to be an uphill battle for the Windies for sure

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

Good bowling at the end, but they were done in by lax fielding.
Sri Lanka finish 303-5

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

The question remains, which Lara, Sarwan, and Chanderpaul will show up. And does Malinga da Slinga have any gas left?

Re: Super Eights - West Indies vs Sri Lanka

303/5 they got across the 300 mark.

Great batting by the two Jaya's. The windies have their work cut out for them, with bowlers like Murali and Malinga, the pressure is on. If the Windies lose this match their world cup hopes are finished.
It must be very tough for the Windies, getting beaten in their own back yard.
