Taking centre

I think thats what its called..taking centre (correct me if im wrong) Its where the batsmen make a line with their shoe when they're batting at the crease. I just wanted to know why batsmen do it as i want to get in a habit of doing it myself and how you do it.

Re: Taking centre

The main benefit of taking any guard - centre, middle & leg or leg stump is to get some consistency into your batting by ensuring you always start from the same point. You may have heard commentators say a batsman 'knows where his off stump is' or something similar, this comes from always setting up in the same place so over time you can better judge the line of a ball and play the appropriate shot

As to which guard to take, talk to someone who knows your batting and where your strengths and weaknesses are and they should be able to suggest which guard would be best, take it from there and always try to set up consistently which should help when you are out in the middle. Best of luck
