Simple don't use your pads, because the umpire will think that you are trying to get yourself out. Try using the paddle sweep to get the ball out from near your pads.Spin King;274405 said:I'm a handy middle order batsmen, have all the shots except the leg glance and anything on my pads.
I seem to struggle with the ball coming in at my pads.
Does anyone have any advice that could help?
Cheers

When I'm playing well I've got a nice leg glance, but at the moment I'm abit rusty, and keep completely mis-timing the ball and having it come off the back of the bat. Could it be because my bat face is too closed in my stance/grip? Say I opened the face of the bat in my grip a little more would this help illeviate the probkem you reckon?

Take a small stride inside the line of the ball with both toes pointing down the wicket, then bring the bat down straight and turn the wrists at the last moment. Top hand in control.
This also allows you to on drive the slightly straighter ones.
Here is a picture to help:
Also notice the backlift over off stump or a bit wider. If yours is over middle or even leg stump you can't play the shot as you are playing around your pad.
