Umpires

Umpires

We really need to do something about the umpires in the APS. It has been so bad for so long yet they continue to do nothing about it. Yesterday, the Carey v Scotch game was ruined completely. 4 wickets going against the Carey batsmen where all were ridiculous decisions. This isnt just a Carey person whinging coz we lost but many of the Scotch players said that they were terrible decisions also. Gaff caught behind off the thighpad, Loorham LBW, batting out of his crease coming along way forward, O'Hern caught behind after smashing the ground, Parker out LBW after pitching outside leg, batting out of his crease and coming along way forward. This game would have been a very very good game.

Any other terrible decisions on the weekend?

Re: Umpires

xavier did not want to play after 5 cause there was no point, but geelong wanted their ******** player to get a hundred.

a blatant run out, he was out by 4 feet, and the umpire said he was in a perfect position and gave it not out, and you could tell from anywhere on the ground it was out.

also the umpires had no trouble giving TWO DUBIOUS decisions in the 4 overs on the friday nite, both LBW's to the xavier openers and then gave NOTHING to xaviers bowlers, some which were plumb. joke.

Parker was plumb (see above). Gaff's decision was contentious but people forget he was genuinely plumb about 3 balls before. Scotch could have very easily won the game at about 9/150 when Jamie Macmillan snaffled a catch off Grose bowling to T. Reid, clearly out, but once again, the umps didn't pay it. It's fair to say they are consistently inconsistent, but i suppose, thats cricket. On the whole they are good blokes who just love the game, give them a rest.

Re: Umpires

People sometimes forget that these umpires love the game as much as we do playing it. A lot of them have years of experience and will have umpired much better standards of cricket than APS, but do we hear them complaining about how bad some of the players are? or the standard for that matter? Come on fellas, you play on some of the best grounds in melbourne, best lunches, great schools, you can't have it all. Give the old blokes a rest they do a good job.

Re: Umpires

i would agree with a few of the carey decisions. very unlucky. but robbie o hrn absolutely smashed his. no doubt about that. scotch also had a few goagainst them as well so it evened out quit nicely...

Parker u r full of it mate! sure one of them wasnt great but the rest were all legit. get ova it mate ur still saw u got smashed by a damn good scotch outfit. copt it mate

Re: Umpires

a scotch outfit which has to bring back last years captain to be competetive, gaff not out no doubt about that the only reason pushfatwo is saying it was out was coz he was bowling! loorham long way forward but if giving not too outrageous, parkers pitched outside lef stump and grossy knows it he was pushing it across the left hander all day so if it pitches online it misses off, it had to pitch outside leg to hit the stumps mate, scotch were a good bunch of blokes thoroughly deserved there victory but say they win by only 5 runs then these decisions become a real issue, and u can say give them a rest but they are getting paid for it so they should really do the required job.

Re: Umpires

In the Wesley v MGS game Charlie Shaw was caught in gully on about 15 roughly and given not out (because the umpire could not see if the guy in gully caught it because the bowler was in the way) after Shaw had started to walk. and then he was given not out after snicking a HUGE edge to the keeper on 30. These were just two of some very dodgy decisions in the match

Re: Umpires

Would not have mattered. Wesley bowling apart from the left handed opener would struggle in the 10 A comp. Clearly not up to it . Will get smashed by Brighton this week. Couple of good bats is not enough in this comp,

Well what we're they? stop whinging about the umpiring. There's nothing you can do about it. DO you eat sour grapes all the time or just some of the time?

Re: Umpires

guys, it is a well known fact that APS umpires are very old and very experienced. Having said that it should be noted that they are umpiring APS matches for a reason, they start on a friday, and therefore they are not of as high a level as say Premier cricket or Sub-district. It has to be expected that because the games start on on a friday, all of the "better" umpires will be umpiring matches solely on saturdays. As a former APS player for 4 years i have seen some very dubious decisions, both for and against my school. It has to be expected that there will undoubtedly be decisions which go for and against your teams too, but over the course of a 10 game season, or 2-3 years, this will even out. i put this to all of you, what is stopping bowlers from knocking over the pegs to dismiss batsmen? or getting decent edges to the keeper or slips? If the bowlers are good enough, they will get the wickets they deserve, one way or another. Also, if the bastmen are good enough they will keep out the good ball and not get hit on the pads or actually middle the ball. It goes both ways fellas, the umpires call it how they see it.

Wesley bowling attack is a joke at the moment with the main bowler struggling from a back problem and without much depth. Charlie Shaw batted well even though he probably was caught in gully on 0 (not 15) but it was a tough decision, wesley probably thought they had the rough end of the stick but they seemed to handle it well.
Whoever that umpire is (not Derrick) was the one in all the contraversy, he is an absolute joke and he should give it up.
Umpires was not the difference though, MGS too good.

I find it astounding how many so called cricketers seem to blame umpires for results of gamesXavier included . I suppose they would have elected to play to late if their chances of outright were possible AS IF!!!!
