    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Hey all, Since coming back from a month off from bowling I'm feeling super rusty and lacking control. My pitching is okay but I've noticed a definite degradation in my seam control. I'm bowling a long complete side spinners and accidental top spinners. I really want to work on getting my seam...

Yeah it was very deceptive. From a distance it looked fine and then up close it had the texture of playdough. Suppose that's why real clubs have covers for their wickets. 😅

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Hey all I'm back after finishing Ramadan and just played the first game of the season and boy what a game it was. The headlines figures were we lost the toss and were put into bat, ending up all out for 59 after 33 overs. That’s not a typo. We only scored 59 at a rate of less than 2 an over. We...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Haha thanks. It's even better when I first started practicing it, I'm a bit rusty now but I'm hoping after a few hours of consistent practice I can get it under control. I would actually rather it didn't turned and skidded straight on. Like you said, getting an LBW or bowled or even a leading...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Evening fellas, April has finally thawed and I managed to get out to the back garden for an hour of bowling and got a bunch of clips. I've started practicing the flipper like you said Dave and you're right, it's not actually that hard. Controlling it will take some serious practice but that...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Any advice on how to work on this? I can do the clicking action and get back spin when tossing it from hand to hand but as soon as I try to bowl it goes all over the play with zero control. Is there a difference in arm angle/release point? Do you do anything different with your body?

Am I right in saying in Aus you need to bowl with more topspin than side spin? I remember hearing about that on commentary when they were discussing Nathan Lyon's effectiveness or lack of effectiveness in certain conditions. Why is that? I'm guessing the wickets must be different than hear in...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

That's what I thought. Anytime I try to react to a batsman charging I scuff it wide or drag it down for a half tracker. I'm guessing the grip might differ somewhat for a topspinner as opposed to a normal leggie. Any signs you usually look out for to see if a batsman will leave his crease? I...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Really? Tbf calling most of the offies I meet actual spinners may be a bit of a stretch. Most of them are just batsmen who get bored during nets or guys too chubby to bowl fast anymore so they just turn their arms over and bowl a bit of offspin. I havent really met an offie that can really turn...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

In terms of the flipper Dave, are you bowling like Warne and Phil Potts advise which is clicking the fingers to create backspin or do you have your own method? I've never had much luck with the clicking style and gave up on it quite quickly. But having a backspinner is really useful so I'd love...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

So my approach when a batsman charges depends on the batsman: Regular club hero: He's probably gonna charge out of instinct and not thought. Soon as he sees the ball flight up he's out of his crease. With these batsmen, usually floating it across them and into their pads is enough to get them...

I will definitely take you up on your offer this summer. I don't hold out much hope for the weather over April. It's looking wet and miserable as usual. Would be fantastic if we could get a few leggies together and share some insights. I literally don't know a single other leg spinner. Everyone...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

What a great video! Warne's masterclasses were always the best. Oh nice, I'm from Bexley. We should have a leg spin meet one day. I'm sure you could teach me a thing or two. I'm still waiting for the terrible weather to pass to get some proper practice in again. One thing I've been trying to...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I'm so glad you said that. I've been arguing with a mate forever that some of Warne's variations were either made up by him or mislabelled by commentators. I've been watching so many clips where he is literally bowling exactly the same ball but it stays straight and commentary call it the slider...
