re: South Division 10/11
Manning might have been unlucky, but Bowen was bowling every second game on a road in the middle of a postage stamp.
I had a crack at picking a team a few weeks ago, had Manning in there for D Cassell, and A Cassell in for Lasky.
I reckon you can go on and on...
re: South Division 10/11
Not too many surprises in the team of the year this year:
Cockbain
Lasky
S Villani
Daykin
I Hewett
D Cassell
Roach as skipper
Maggs
Street
Gelbart
Bowen
re: South Division 10/11
Disagree on Beauie. Clearly with Hewett in the team they will be strong but would need Cockbain back. Would also need Hignett and Harrison to play on, both would be pushing 40 years old next year.
Under the points system it is tougher to replace some quality...
re: South Division 10/11
Chelsea definitely didn`t appear to be going for it late on Day 1, think the big total off 40 overs might have put them off. Wasn`t playing, so keen to know what happened as well.
Massive game from Bowen though.
re: South Division 10/11
The point is that if both teams are equally incentivised to chase an outright, you don't really need an agreement, they would be playing with those tactics anyway.
re: South Division 10/11
Unlucky.
Brighton did only beat Melbourne High by 5 runs in the last over... after the ball hit the helmet behind the keeper earlier in the day. Would hardly call that convincing.
If it was 5th vs 9th and the same tactics were used, then there would be an...
re: South Division 10/11
Hardly think it is a manipulation of the rules. Regardless of whether there was an agreement or not, both teams' only chance of playing finals was to win outright and rely on Brighton losing - therefore their own tactics had to be agressive to force a two innings...
re: South Division 10/11
I would have thought the issue for Beauy if they get relegated is not getting guys to travel, it's getting a team on the park. Obviously Hewett is the the key, but a decent side would need to get Cockbain back from overseas, and Hignett and Harrison would have a few...
re: South Division 10/11
Bonus points also assist teams that play on high scoring grounds. Take Woodfull-Miller, were 280-300 is a par score, in comparison to Boss Reserve where you are happy with over 150-180. Say it's an extra 1.2 points a game and it adds up to an extra win over the...
re: South Division 10/11
Would be interesting to see what would happen if they ever made it to Senior Division... Can the VTCA impose a change of ground on a club if it is clearly not up to the required standard?
