Where are those places Thomas?
Interesting. Now I needed to wait for Craig to see what he says about his hometown. The first one is indeed downtown Sydney and the second one is Waikiki Beach in Hawaii, all sent by my daughter. For Sydney I specially picked one without the Opera House...☺️ but the skyline is easy to identify for those living there.
Goes without saying that my initial question was tongue-in-cheek. 🤗 Jessica got it immediately. It was meant to be bait for Craig but he'd gone dark somewhere at a time when I needed his input...........Where have you been, mate?

Both Sydney and Perth are beautiful cities with a breathtaking skyline. Well-chosen places by your parents. In Brisbane, though, locals say that their town is the best in Aus....

Congrats, Terry, that looks like a pretty good job and must give you a lot of satisfaction. Getting rid of all the cords is definitely helpful and makes your workplace look tidy and inviting. I may have shown you my workplace at home but am doing it here again for comparison. Admittedly, the cords I spared have been replaced by those of external drives but they aren't always plugged in. Having a notebook is much better than a tower unless you're a gamer.

I'm currently working on setting up a more convenient backup facility using Filesync and on encrypting either drives or files with VeraCrypt or Password Folder which all come free of charge since I haven't taken that seriously enough. As a part of this process I spent some money on MS Word 2024 for there's no support for my old version which might be a safety risk.

Too bad you caught a sinus infection, Terry. The dust in your home can't be that infectious but having gone through that should really make you careful when cleaning up sheds, attics, and the like since that dust could really be dangerous . I always wear a FFP2 mask.

I did some cleaning a few years ago for some extra cash, my first job was to empty the vacuum cleaner bag which hadn't been emptied for a while, it was bursting with dust and crap, as I attempted to empty it it burst open and I inhaled a load of dust, I ended up with a bacterial chest infection. Good advice about wearing a mask Thomas, I usually do now when doing any cleaning or dusting.

When we migrated to Oz my parents had a choice of living in Perth or Melbourne. I'm so sorry now they chose Melbourne because Perth is not only a beautiful city visually and the people are also a helluva lot nicer plus it's not such a rat race like it is in down here in Melbourne and Sydney for that matter.
Where are you originally from Zman?
My parents were considering emigrating to Australia when my uncle did as a ten pound pommy. He was single with no kids though so much easier for him to do it.

I migrated from Northen Ireland Zman. Aged 14 I was towed along with family to Perth but most family went East or Overseas eventually, even my daughers and their husbands, now with kids, and my adulterous Ex headed East. 👍
I stayed in Perth 1 km away from my old Dad til his end and still live in that quiet suburb 11km from the City.

Where did your family migrant from, if that's not too personal?
I've taught thousands of kids from all sorts of backgrounds and truly love the multicultural Society that our Australia has become, built on the backs of generations of migrants and first nations' people.
I preached tolerance to my students and chastised any bigotry, racism, bullying, ..
Why visit other world cultures when they come to us! We're the most successful multicultural society on the planet!

Melbourne is good imo, I like it more than Sydney. (sorry Craig) My eldest daughter lives ~100km north of Melbourne CBD with her family. Her son, my only grandson, is a Magpies fan! 😀 ! I'm a keen AFL fan too. Dockers!
My younger daughter & her family live in the 🍌 bending state on its Sunshine Coast.

I figured it was but because I saw no Sydney Tower or the AMP multi storey I was dubious. I am thinking that skyline shot takes in part of Barangaroo, which I have seen only at nite (Vivid Sydney). Waikiki, I had Rio in mind.

Croatia, then we came to Australia when I was 2 and I grew up here.

Despite our overburdening red tape Australia is a great place to live.
My state is trying to cut the red tape to provide young couples with a home sooner. Yes why are our house prices so steep. This may answer the question.

  • From the 1990s through the pandemic, official cash rates fell from around 8% to near zero, before recent rises. This long downward trend boosted loan volumes and property bids. Cheaper finance translated into higher loan serviceability, allowing buyers to stretch budgets further and drive up median prices

  • Zoning laws, lengthy approval processes (red tape) and community pushback have slowed the release of “shovel-ready” land and higher-density housing projects.
  • Infrastructure costs—roads, utilities, schools—add to the upfront expense of greenfield development, which is passed on to buyers.

My old step father in law was Croatian. He was a kind and lovely gentleman who ran 400 acres of beef cattle just east of Perth, reasonably close to my old home in the hills. Myself with family in tow would often visit him and my mother in law. The kids loved the farm life and we all helped with feedings, herding and chain sawing dead wood for our wood pot bellies.
Stan had Croatian relatives all over the NE outer regions of Perth. He was an amazing fellow who loved and once played AFL and got me hooked on it.
I greatly admired his Green attitude leaving alone trees and shrubs on sloping land, which was where we cut up dead logs for firewood. 🔥

I was 14 when my family migrated to Australia from Ulster as £10 Poms.
Never looked back.

You're using your invisible ink again Craig which I find it easier to read by just highlighting your text. Or of course going dark mode in Style Chooser.

Good on NSW cutting the bundles and tangles of housing red tape. I listened to an ABC item on the subject. It apparently adds greater costs on buying a property.

I too believe there's too much red tape in Australia keeping the micro managing bureaucrats in work and slowing progress and reducing productivity which Labor says it wants to improve. More committees no doubt.
Ironically our ATO needs more Red tape losing $2 billion plus to GST fraudsters. 😲 Idiots.

I used those glossies for my bird cage floor, and later to annoy a great Greek mate I encouraged others to put their glossy spam into his pigeon hole. We'd laugh as he ripped them up. He is still a close friend of several decades. 😄 He's pulling the pin soon, he's had enough and I best not repeat some of the comical things he said about red tape.

Once as an acting boss I got a big box of glossies and assorted crap which I buried deep in the bowels of our store room. 35 years later I wonder if it ever got found? 😂 It's worse now.

Sorry to hear of your bacterial chest infection from your bursting vacuum bag Jessica. A hard lesson which I share. Masks, masks, masks, ... !

I saw my Doctor again today who put me onto this over the counter nasal spray:

That cleared me up quite quickly.👌

And a Vicks vaporiser with Eucalytus and Peppermint oils.
$50 +$15 = $65 and gently bubbling away as it pumps out
healing vapours into my whole living area.. 🤞

My little dog seems ok with it. It might help him too.

Vicks is lovely. I usually melt a spoonful in a bowl of hot water, the aroma clears my blocked nose during a cold 🤧
