The Lounge 2

What strikes me, though, is that it's men only who use a car as a weapon or have you heard of a woman doing that?
Males being violent seems an innate pattern in us Humans Thomas. Even like males being more susceptible to suicide.
It's in our genes and evolutionary past.
Even with our brief evolution it's still surely hard to rise above our primal past, especially how fast the Future is rushing at us in recent decades.
Our norms should change to throw off the negative shackles of the Human Condition, but that's a very tall order at the breakneck speed all things are now changing.
Alvin Toffer's Future Shock Pt II !

Not all animal species are so Patriarchal as us Humans tend to be, which is nice to see. I think Elephants have a Matriarchal society. Whales? Gorillas?

What caused that vile person to snap so? I haven’t heard.
Was it a terrorist attack, psychotic episode, drug induced, revenge, .. ? What can excuse such an heinous act?
Those bollards are sadly a good idea. Especially the pop up ones for authorised vehicles only.

I mentioned that briefly to Craig. See above. Apparently a psychotic period. A 33 yo local German, father of two, and an ex-boxer. He'd asked for psychiatric treatment in a clinic and was released shortly before. He's said to have had a row with his wife, partner before the deed. Nothing can justify such an act. Tomorrow (Today for you) I'll be meeting up with my brother again same time and place as usual.
Those movable bollards are also used during the time of the Christmas market.

Thanks for that Thomas. A psychotic period!

A stressed out Ex Boxer too.

My old Father in law was a champion boxer and got hit too many times in the head, as boxers do.
A gentle gentleman even into his early dottage ...

A psychotic period!
A well used defence, and sometimes aptly so.
I'm no judge but surely public safety should be put first.
It's so often not here ... with recidivism highly likely with constant repeat offenders let out again and again and ...

Those bollards are essential in some places for sure.
We Aussies have had our own share of such brutal vehicle killings.

Long Rise the Bollards!

ggrr morning insomnia. Nothing to answer then will read news.
I thought you might like to read the Nature Science article below on Human Sleep patterns Craig.

Why humans sleep so little

On the basis of the sleeping habits of closely related animals, biological anthropologist David Samson estimates that humans require roughly 2.5 hours more sleep than we tend to get each day. This “human sleep paradox” is the focus of his book, The Sleepless Ape. Using ethnography, neurobiology and primatology, Samson argues that the amount of sleep our species gets reflects an evolutionary trade-off. Short, high-quality bouts of sleep helped our ground-sleeping ancestors to stay alert to predators, with the bonus of more waking hours for social interaction and learning — something that reshaped the trajectory of our evolution.

I'm finding the more I age Craig the less sleep I get. Rarely 8 hours, more like 6 or 7 hours, sometimes only 5 hours.
I don't even have afternoon naps anymore.
My little dog sleeps about 10 hours a day!

Those original French Collins Class Submarines were Nuclear I think Craig.
Diesel-electric, same as our Collins class ones Terry. Evidently the Collins are having a major upgrade. Did you know they were built her in SA and were the first subs to be produced by computer. The Froggies have reoffered to sell their subs to us should AUKUS collapse. We built our last subs we should do the same with our next subs as well.

Ditto Terry. I prefer morning than nite insomnia. Thats a dead set sleep killer. My Bonnie prob sleeps longer than your pooch since having anemia.

Well said Craig!

The sooner we wash our hands of the US rubbish Aukus deal, the better. The US is chaotic and untrustworthy!
I too feel France is our best bet for subs, and the Japanese for their Frigates.

Make America Alone Again! MAAA!

It's multifaceted, as my daughter says, who's a forensic psychiatric specialist. First and foremost, there are good reasons (euthanasia in Nazi-Germany) that the threshold for keeping a person in a clinic against their will is high. The law says "if there's no indication of the patient being an immediate danger to themselves or others", they may leave the clinic at any time.
Unfortunately, it doesn't always show whether a patient is going to commit such a violent offence. Other factors contributing to an insufficient treatment are time and money constraints.
Edit: To be precise, the official wording is "an acute psychic state of emergency" which isn't necessarily an intermittent period.

The Australian Grape and Wine industry is investigating whether its current 263-million-litre glut of wine would be better used as bio fuel to power cars, trucks or even aircraft.

University of Adelaide plant science professor Rachel Burton said the ethanol in wine was not fundamentally different to the ethanol found in E10 petrol.

"The difference is in purification, If you wanted to isolate the bio ethanol you would do that through distillation, which is the same process used to make spirits. Distillation simply involves applying heat to remove the alcohol."

The 263 million litres is expected to produce about an estimated 30 million litres of ethanol.

Good thinking 99.

Mate we built the last Hunter class frigates under the Libs. Why is Labor buying Japanese ones??
We're buying 11 advanced Mogami-class frigates from Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to upgrade the Royal Australian Navy. These stealth frigates will replace the ageing Anzac-class vessels, offering better range and combat capabilities with 32 vertical launch cells for long-range missiles. The first three frigates will be built in Japan, with the rest constructed in Australia, as part of a deal worth around 10 billion dollars.

You were right about the Collins class not being French made Craig, but built here. I got mixed up with a French deal that got shelved several years ago.
10 billion dollars for 11 Frigates is so much cheaper than 1 Nuclear Awkward Sub.

More than 3 million Australians over 65 to pay more for private health with their rebates to be cut, thanks to Charmers 'commie' budget.

Does this affect you Terry. Will us and more than pensioner couples as missus still earns a modest income. Charmers dont give a shit that an estimated 44K Aussies will have to ditch private health. That is 44K that will have to rely on the public purse for their medical needs. Typical red policy. Why do you support this party mate.

How should it be instead mate? Is private health really better in Aus? My daughter is privately insured and doesn't fare any better except paying more. It would be a nightmare for me to be privately insured since it would eat up the best part of my pension. I'm really glad not to have given in to their wooing when I was younger.

I struggled in my early years raising a young family and paying off a mortgage on a little home in Perth hills. Concrete floors and newspaper on the windows. Private health insurance was out of reach for us financially.
Once we had a choice of a heater in winter or a phone. We choose the heater.
So we used the public health system as best we could which helped us greatly. Using it regularly we got used to using it and its workings. I still use it, especially as an old aged pensioner where my visits to my GP are free, Scripts are cheap, and many other concessions ... but I maintain an emergency slush fund.
If I might need a left hip operation, I'll pay for it myself rather than waiting years on the public health waiting lists. More serious ailments like heart issues, strokes, organs issues, cancers, ... are treated promptly and free in the public health system.

However, I do acknowledge some Seniors really do need private health insurance and recent rises in costs is severely impinging upon their limited finances.

That was my main criticism. Hitting those most vulnerable to the affects of the cost of living. Who cares they dont pay tax any more, but you pinkos, remember this clearly, we still vote.
