Re: Need some general advice..
I'm no coach, and beever could bat at all, but there a couple of things that come to mind that the coaches - and others far more knowledgeable than myself - here may like to expand on or trash. One or more (or none) may be applicable to yourself.
1. As said by...
Re: Zimbabwe in Bangladesh
Game 4 and Zimbabwe all out 44. Even with a pitch that does a bit, and apprently that one did, that's incredible.
And then Bangladesh lost 4 wickets in reponse, though they didn't lose the first until 33 were on the board.
Zimbabwe 44 (Al Hasan 3/8, Enamul Haue Jr...
Re: Was the don that good ?
99.94 on uncovered pitches, without the bat technology.
If th Don was around these days, he would also have advantages of coaching (though in his case that might be a disadvantage), fitness instructors and nutritionists, etc, the same as modern bowlers.
Its true that...
Re: Ireland, Canada, Netherlands and Kenya qualify for 2011 World Cup
I just hope those that have ODI status get a few games against some Test nations. Probably just the lower ranked ones, unless they chlk up a few wins and then they can get a crack at the big teams.
ODI status by its own does...
Re: day night tests ? do you agree.
I don't mind it so much provided:
- the ball ages correctly
- it is limited to grounds without dew problems
- the lights are absolutely top class, better than any I have seen as yet (though, to be fair, I've only been to night cricket at the MCG and footy at...
Re: Cricket stadiums
Obviously Lords, althought I have to say I like it for what it means more than the ground itself. And the MCG, Boxing Day is the number one day on the annual calendar for me.
Want to go to Newlands, Trent Bridge and Eden Gardens - all for different reasons.
Re: batting averages/ pre 1990
Yes, but they were before 1990 (as the cut-off used in the thread). I was referring to the fence being the boundary in the past, and grounds which are now much smaller than previously. That difference is greater in Australia than elsewhere.
Re: Wicket Keeper
This was always a confusing one for me as an Australian. Against Australia, Russell's batting average was better than Stewart's for most of the time their career's coincided and Russell was by far the better keeper.
Stewart as a batsman and Russell as the keeper always...
Re: What is the perfect pitch for test cricket?
The traditional Brisbane pitches are close to ideal I reckon.
A bit of seam early, but the bowler still has to put in the effort to get the reward. Flattens out after that. Then by the middle of day three there's just touch of turn. Maybe some...
Re: batting averages/ pre 1990
The smaller grounds are only really an issue in Australia. Few other countries used the fence as the boundary on a widespread basis. Some did at spme grounds, or parts of grounds, but it was really only Australia that had the fence as the boundary as a default...
Re: best team, ever
First two chosen, Bradman and Sobers. After that it gets a little tricky.
On a very quick, no deep thought or any research at all, post:
Test side
Hobbs
Ponsford
Trumper
Bradman (c)
Tendulkar
Sobers - possibly vice captain
Imran Khan???? probably prefer an extra genuine...
Re: How come i cant bounce a cricket ball???
Could be any number of reasons, from a low delivery point, to a lack of pace, to the pitches used. Even your grip could play a part.
Or you simply might need to bowl a half-metre shorter if you want to get the ball over the stumps - but bear in...
Re: Swinging the ball
I wouldnt necessarily agree with that, though in most cases it will hold true. Certainly if you are allowing a quest for all-out pace to affect your action it will most likely sto you from swinging the ball. However, more pace without a change in action will not stop the...
Re: hitting up!!!!!:(
Question from somebody whose main claim to batting fame was running my partner out (and I usually only had one, coming in at #11) - would it be worth (if the bottom hand is chronically in control) facing a few throw-downs using the top hand only? The idea being that this...
Re: Cheats XI.
1. Who was "dirt in the pocket"? Atherton?
2. Gavaskar - more for his antics after retiring than anything during his career
3. G Chappell - underarm
4. Ranatunga (c) - too many incidents to list
5. Cronje - duh
6. Who was the Pakisatani captain in the forfeit match?
7. Sir...
Re: Can aussies win test series in sa??
The b atting is far better than it showed this summer, but can Australia take 20 wickets for a decent total regularly. Without Clark, I suspect not.
Its certainly not a no-hope situation, but SA have to start big favourites.
