Re: The referral system
A few observations on the referral system after watching the two test series in Australia:
1. the stated intention of the system - to remove the "howlers" was completely defeated as referrals were overwhelmingly called on what proved to be good umpiring decisions - but...
Re: Mark Nicholas
Mark Nichollas is a product of the new Americanised mass media cricket - reducing cricket to a shallow corporate spectacle.
I assume O'donnel was overlooked because he has a horribly unclear deep voice that puts people to sleep. And I don't believe Nicholas will be the new...
Re: India in Bangladesh
Big surprise of the day - Ashraful scores 14 - and is still in! Congrats to him - thats a fine score by his standards. No doubt he will be out early tomorrow playing one too many millionaire shots. But hey, why wouldn't he? - he knows his position is secure no matter what.
Richie Benaud is passed it
Sorry Rich, I know you are a national icon, but its really time to go.
First of all, he is biased against non-Australians and especially against sub-continent players. I never noticed this as much before, but it has become obvious to me now. Sure you could understand...
Re: Help me play a cut shot
I assume you mean you play back foot drives instead of cutting? If so, then this is very far from ridiculous. In fact I would argue that this is even better. It is very common for coaches to encourage young players to practice the back foot drive instead of the...
Re: The tactic of dropping fieldsmen when a tailender is in with a proper batsmen
hasn't it already happened? With maybe the exception of third man, I see little difference. Even as little as 10 years ago it was common practice for mid on to be the only fieldsman in front of the wicket at...
Re: The tactic of dropping fieldsmen when a tailender is in with a proper batsmen
What your forgeting is a few modern phenomena that have made run scoring much easier for batsmen:
- better pitches
- better bats
- faster outfields
- shorter boundaries
not to mention the fact that modern day...
Re: Australia over restricting crowds
Definitely over the top. I heard recently that they have banned people from brining in trumpets. I think back to the ashes series in England and every match there was a trumpet player playing popular tunes to the delight of the crowd around him. I'm sure...
Re: India in Bangladesh
oh what a surprise - another Bangladesh batting collapse.
Seriously though, who is Mohammad Ashraful sleeping with to keep his place in the side after failure after failure after failure? When was the last time he got a score over 20 - or over 10 for that matter? It...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Yousuf has already pretty much ruled out dropping K Akmal - he is considered too valuable for his batting (pretty funny I know considering how he has thrown his wicket away in just about all his innings so far). That said, I don't really think Akmal is the real problem...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
It is premature. Lets put some perspective on this innings - even ignoring the 3 drop chances, we are talking about an innings where the bowlers only strategy against him was to attempt to get him off strike. They did not attack Hussey at all, spread the field far...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
What an absolute disgrace. Mark my words, notwithstanding Australia's great achievement, this is a tragic day for test cricket - 1-1 going in to Hobart would have set up a good series, but now it is a dead rubber which one can only see going one way. I fear that...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
feeling vindicated about my last comment that this should be Australia's game at the beginning of their second innings. 6 down with 70 odd runs still to get Australia are now hot favourites. Just imagine how much more convincing Australia's victory would be if they had...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Its funny, I remember last time Pakistan were out here Ian Chappel was giving Akmal huge raps for his keeping skills. Maybe his keeping has got worse. His batting has been dreadful as well.
Meanwhile, bye bye North - I don't expect to see you for the next test.
Re: Pakistan in Australia
of course Australia can win - they just need to bat for 1 and half days (which will be the best batting conditions of the match) and set around 200 runs on the last day. History has shown that you sure as hell don't want to be chasing anything over 200 on the last day...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Some nice self destruction by Pakistan after working hard at the start. Australia probably should win from here as they will have the best conditions for batting tomorrow and Wednesday.
Re: Pakistan in Australia
whos brilliant idea was it to start a test on a Sunday? The same genious who decided to have the 4th and 5th days of the Perth test on a Saturday and Sunday? Way to utilise the weekends guys. Now the whole test will probably be played out while I'm at work.
Re: Pakistan in Australia
I think the original plan was to put him there temporarily until Phillip Hughes was ready to come back into the team. But I guess he's surprised everyone with his very good technique. As for the ashes, I'd hardly call him the weak point there - he scored a string of...
