In the MCC rules there is a rule regarding what a bat can be made of, it is only willow in official matches! I've not really experimented with other woods, would be worth searching on the internet though!
Willow is the only wood you can legally use for a cricket bat. English, or Kashmir. It's in the MCC rules for all games played in an official league (at least, I can't remember off the top of my head). Klusener used a 3'5 bat I think, or something similar. Paul Collingwood nets with a 4lb+bat...
Neither, they are both Kashmir willow, and are a far inferior quality to English willow. What level do you play at? How old are you? We're the wrong kind of people to ask, you need a profile (bat shape) that suits your style of play, you need the right size for you if you are still growing, you...
And I yours, Dave, always a good read! Been having a mess about with trying to bowl "the other one" so might have to make a post about that. Gotta keep myself sane somehow...!
Right, it'd be rude not to start this now! Bit of free time...
I got into cricket properly at the age of 13, over 8 years ago now, when a friend asked me to play in a match for a local side. I had played before, but more as sort of a "making up the numbers" lark for school. I started off as a...
Menno is a wonderful person to have around online. always willing to help, whether through twitter, facebook, or his website. We should probably see about getting him on here...!
No no Dave, as in someone asked who bowled a flipper, and I mentioned Danish! Too right Macca, he's class, would have had about 150 more wickets if he didn't have teflon behind the stumps and a bunch of morons in the field...
Yorkers take a combination of quick thinking, quick moving, and luck to dig out. You have to pick it up early, move your feet accordingly (normally to get them out of the way), and get your bat down in time. I tried to find a video of someone playing a yorker well but they're all bowled/LBW! I'm...
Mirror, or "shadow" batting, is wonderful Dave. It's like videoing yourself. Find a clip of a shot played well (an Ian Bell cover drive comes to mind!) and show it on youtube, and visualise yourself playing it in your head. then try it in front of the mirror, remembering to move your feet, make...
Dave, I have lots of contacts that use them, I can highly recommend them. It's essentially like one of them tennis ball slingers that dog owners get, it's not too hard actually. They're also quite cheap (£20 for the club, £25 for the pro on Amazon). It would be worth experimenting with I feel!
Yeah, I was gonna reply (and thought I did actually), internet must have died on me! I recommend either a low-GI breakfast, so that the carbs burn slowly. Also, I have a banana before the match, and works for me, I would recommend something along those lines. I've found also that anything with...
Being a good player of spin also means using the depth of your crease, being able to go deep and playing off the back foot. I like to feign charging down the track, making the spinner drop it short, and then leaning back and using a cut/pull. As a finger spinner myself, I also have a good idea...
Never been a fan of having long off and long on at the start of the spell unless the bowler is a very inexperienced bowler. Heck, I barely have them out at the death, never mind during the middle/beginning of the spell!
Basically, a man at short third man, point, cover, and mid-off (if I am reading rightly, unless SLA is suggesting a slightly different field somehow...?)
