Re: Pakistan in Australia
Yeah I certainly wouldn't have guessed he'd do this well at the top. He's certainly got the right technique. I would say though that I'd like to see opposition bowlers bowl just slightly shorter of a length to him - too often he gets set by dispatching too many...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Like putting Rauf in at point when bowling wide at Watson when he's on 99? haha
But seriously, its really not that surprising that a sub-continent team plays tentatively in the first test in Australia after just one warm up game. It happens so often with touring...
Re: Australian Test XI - Selection Thread
Agreed - Rauf should be dropped. What about Sami - I heard he has been brought over for this tour. Maybe he should come in instead of Gul? Consider also next test is Sydney - they may want two spinners. I think Ajmal was pretty hard done by in this test...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
There would be some sense in dropping Misbah Ul Haq instead - though he probably should keep his place for his first innings score - albeit in slightly easier circumstances since Ponting spread the field whenever he was on strike. Iqbal is an attacking and potentially...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
I would get rid of Imran Farhat - except that he's an opener and they probably want to keep their openers (especially this current pair they've persisted with for a while now). My guess is they'll drop either Faisal Iqbal or Misbah Ul Haq - but probably Iqbal since...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
I'll have to have another look at that swing from Johnson. But it wasn't just the dismissals - the hat trick ball was exactly the same, and there were numerous other play and misses both this morning and yesterday. I just don't see any evidence that the Pakistanis have...
Re: The referral system
I don't believe that an initial not-out decision should be overturned when the referral shows that its very tight - like an lbw shout that is shown by technology to just flick the bail or the edge of the stump. In such a case the umpire, IMO, made the correct call - even...
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Batting is all about making adjustments - especially at the professional level. Now Mohammad Yousuf was caught out by a few of those deliveries from Johnson yesterday, and this should have rang some alarm bells amongst the Pakistani brains trust. Now you say Johnson...
Re: Left Handed Batsmen
young players can be taught to be either left or right hand batters - regardless of what is their naturally stronger side. And it would seem sensible to teach as many of them to be left handers as they are usually harder to bowl at.
Re: Pakistan in Australia
Hey Pakistan batsmen:
*MITCHELL JOHNSON ANGLES ACROSS THE RIGHT HANDER AND IT WILL NEARLY ALWAYS MISS OFF STUMP*
Its amazing, I can't believe the Pakistan team wouldn't have got together last night after stumps and worked this out. First two balls out to balls...
Re: Getting Out LBW
If you are trying to hit square, I strongly reccommend you abandon this shot - its an incorrect shot in my opinion that has been popularised by international sub-continent players. The more "correct" shot is either putting your leg inside the line of the ball and hitting...
One of the most stupid thing batsmen do
Kevin Pieterson does it all the time, but he's not the only one. When batsmen are taking a run and they run past the crease bat in the air and taking long easy jogging strides. The potential is, if the bats in the air and both feet off the ground and the...
Re: Batting Question
Probably the most relevant factor that hasn't been mentioned is whats happening at the other end? Is your partner scoring lots of runs or not? If your partner is scoring 15 runs every over, then pretty much all you have to do is hand over the strike to your partner.
Re: Razzak faces investigation
Aren't you thinking of Darryl Hair? I don't recall Darryl Harper being in any controversy - at least not since he gave Tendulkar out lbw to a bouncer :p
Re: Will be out or six?
LOL! Thats the best question I've heard about the rules of the game.
I think they should include this in the list of useless questions they ask in the umpires exam - along with such gems like "is it a 6 or a 4 if the ball lands on top of a boundary cone on the full?"
Re: Boundary Ropes
The ropes are a sensible idea for fielding purposes. They are also good commercially as the rope is now just another advertising board.
The boundaries have been brought in for one simple reason - more sixes brings in the crowds.
Re: The Worlds Best.
I don't have anything to add, other than to say I rate Lara far higher than Tendulkar. Lara made his runs when it mattered and was a genuine match winner (see Australia tour of West Indies 1999). Tendulkar makes his runs predominantly when conditions are friendly and when...
New Zealand batting
Cricinfo - New Zealand fight to stay seventh
Thought this was an interesting piece of Trivia. A guy selected for his bowling ends up being one of NZs most successful test batsmen. Says a lot about the quality of the player. Then again, it also says a lot about the...
Re: Shane Watson
Going by this line of argument, the modern game has more or less made the all-rounder obsolete. Tail-enders take their batting very seriously these days, rendering the genuine "bunnies" of old an extremely rare species, and there are more than a few specialist batsmen who...
Re: Advice Against a Left Hander
In what way do you struggle against them exactly?
I maintain that it is not essential to open your stance, it is a personal choice. Personally I think it is safer not to - you are far more balanced when driving through the off side.
