Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
I'll second that. Very funny man and great servant of SPCC for a very long time now. If Hodgey can massacre his body like he has and still be playing in his 60's, there's hope for every one of us.
Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
Hard Hitter I hear you well and truly. Guild's covers blew off yet again last night and no real effort made to play today - Murghe to resume at 2/74 chasing 140. The umpire was keen to get play going if at all possible and had both sides hang around till well...

Re: Kookaburra Balls in the GCA
IMHO -
Platypus turf balls held up better than the Kookas we've been given this year.
Platypus "Googly Longlife" and Kooka "Tuf Pitch" are about on a par.
Platypus "club special" are heaps better than Kooka Red King (often used in the one-day sections...
Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
South Barwon had GCA 7ths recruit of the year today - none other than Jeremy Babb. His first game for the year apparently. Don't think the Frog 5ths know what hit 'em when he bowled.

Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
St.Joseph's, St.Peter's, Alexander Thomson, Guild Saints. Plus "Corio Bay" and "South Barwon" are pretty generic.
Who now play in Newtown?!?!?

Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
Why is it a joke? Why should anyone outside the club care what it is called? Tradition is not always a bad thing. Even though now the cricket club has no identification with the area, it did for nearly 70 years and would (IMO) be disrespectful to change...

Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
Another "wicket in the ninth over" at Little River today, in the 7ths comp. C'mon scorers, it isn't that hard to yell out when you see the same guy about to bowl again.
No dramas fortunately. First ball of a bowler's 9th over; the guy was recalled and ended...

Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
The GCA2 Fourths is currently a very confused situation. Renny is correct - 2 weeks ago Murghe had all 11 4ths players at the ground well before the start of play (a surprise in itself) and at 1.00pm there was no-one from St Peter's there. When Hodgey (who was...

Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
Anyone know the story with Waurn Ponds v Thomson in GCA2 Fourths last Saturday? Entered on MyCricket by Thomson as a Waurn Ponds forfeit but also as a disputed result - so the GCA can rule on it, presumably.

Re: Geelong Cricket Chat 09/10
I don't know whether it's always a great thing to have your cricket club linked to a footy club. Yes they tend to attract the council infrastructure dollars which the cricket club can piggy-back to a degree, and yes they can be handy for recruiting sometimes...
