Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
Through the art of speediness, and a couple of Cougars, I've gotten my way around a few pre-season sessions this year. Working in reverse alphabetical team nickname order...

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
Not sure what is going on there this year, but even then, JJ Holland is seen as a pure 3rd XI ground, and pressure was being put on them last year to find an alternative venue or secure an upgrade for it.
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
The facilities have been a huge issue. Not being able to use Arden St, plus the fact that when it was last used the wicket was diabolical, makes it ridiculously hard to attract any players.
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
Scratch what I said earlier. As mentioned, Dale is playing, and now the talk is Halbish is going to go around again, even though he's working down in Ocean Grove. Plus, Rob Cassell had his first bowl off a long run a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully for...
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
It'd be difficult to argue that their side looks much better than Casey's last year, and they only got the one game.
Still, I think it's rather silly to be writing off any side as only going to win one game. Casey's side looked a lot better last year than...
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
Love, O'Brien, Brouhaska, McCammond and Duckworth gone. Will still have a decent line-up though.

Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
If you're going to claim that McGain and Hussey don't qualify as marquee players, then that rules out pretty much every state player. That pushes Huckett into that category, anyone who is a guaranteed 35+ wicket-taker, is a very good district player...
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
They're basically back in the same situation as they were after the loss of Roach, Swift and others a few years ago, except now they're building their club around people, not a couple of highly paid cricketers.
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
Of the five contracted players who were paid by clubs, four of them were interstate players who tend to be in a position where clubs have to pay them to recruit them (Wade, Rogers, Hastings, Wright), and the other one, Jewell, is a cornerstone of a changing...
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
Throughout their time at the top, a few of those players were always on Victorian contracts, which meant that they weren't really looking to get any money out of the club.
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 09/10
Under the impression that the only reason that HMU got pinged for it is because they had to open their books up to Cricket Victoria after their enormous loss ($140 000+)
Re: Victorian Under 23 Team
Supposedly allowed three overage players, but here's a pure U/23 side.
1. David King
2. B Forsyth
3. A Finch
4. M Hill
5. T Stray
6. W Sheridan
7. J Loorham
8. J Pattinson
9. C Rose
10. J Coleman
11. S Gilmour
12. J Holland
Struggled with the last quick. Coleman...
Re: Victorian Premier Cricket 08/09
You look over the past bit, and generally it's really been mostly pace bowlers who've come from outside the squad to play: McKay, Pattinson, Lindsay. That'd be obviously because of the attritional nature of the skill.
Maybe a Brad Knowles, if he is fully...
