Re: VTCA Thread
McKinnon making 156 off 77 overs, they should be fined for playing cricket like that! YCCC will smash them. Bit harsh on APW, I'd suggest they will be right up there come finals time. Chasing 268 is always tricky so we'll learn more about them this Saturday. Likewise with South...
Re: VTCA Thread
Could have just about picked the 6 winners in Senior Div last weekend. A few surprises in Senior A though.
Better wickets and hotter weather this Saturday. Tipping some big scores to be put on the board, good toss to win.

Re: VTCA Thread
Fair to say Spotty won't be preparing another senior division grand final wicket anytime soon. The low scoring grand finals in all grades over recent years are a concern. It seems neutral grounds just makes for a neutral curator who couldn't care less. Possible solution - home...
Re: VTCA Thread
Tend to agree with NorthClubsDontPayPlayers about Lamb. Fair call about South A, Slipper, but he has topped the runs 3 years straight averaging 50+, you can't do any more than that. He's only 24yo and was finished with district cricket at 20yo. Bit like Ion. Would still play...
Re: VTCA Thread
I don't think he'd have any trouble finding a club that was "interested". We'd certainly have him.
People on this site who bag the pro's who put in and bring success to clubs are out of line. Good to see Brown winning another match on his own on the weekend.
Re: VTCA Thread
That's a bit rough. Think he had a difference in opinion with the sponser paying him at murrumbeena, bought a house in Middle Park and wanted to play with his Jewish mates at a better run cricket club. That's fair enough.
Re: VTCA Thread
From watching the test match last night I noticed that the umpires called stumps after Clarke was dismissed from the second ball of the last over of the day. If that happened in the VTCA would the next batsman have to play out the last over or would it be called stumps? What's...
Re: VTCA Thread
Does the one-day game change anything this week - Are there any teams or players more suited to the 40 over format?
I would think it might favour the better batting teams or teams that lack bowling depth when you consider that there are no individual over restrictions...
Re: VTCA Thread
If the VTCA need 50% of grounds available to make a start then surely we'll be right to go this weekend. It seems that local councils are caring less and less about local cricket these days though - I'd be surprised if everyone got a start.
Re: Vtca 2008/09
Spotty's firsts were no good though - Second bottom with two wins.
But now when you add Robertson to Davies and Broster, can they be top four contenders? Or is their lack of depth still going to hold them back? I thought they underperformed last year.
Re: VTCA Thread
Unfortunately, the chances of the heat policy changing are 0% when you consider that the VTCA rarely change a rule more than once a century.
38 degrees is probably arbitrary (pretty hot temperature none-the-less). But imagine the case your lawyer would have to sue the VTCA if...
Re: VTCA Thread
Agree with Dingo. Heat policy is a joke. As if there aren't enough problems in getting on the ground each Saturday. We're not little schoolkids!
I'm sure at least half the ground will be right this week. After the driest September on record the VTCA couln't possibly cancel...
Re: VTCA Thread
Clubs have to advise the VTCA of their grounds availability by Wednesday night. An announcement will then be made Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
It's been the dryest September on record but still every chance it will be called off for week one.
Re: VTCA Thread
We need the rain, grounds are as hard as a rock. The VTCA should be reluctant to call Round 1 off, it just encourages sides to not bother preparing a wicket if their club's at no disadvantage by doing so.
Re: VTCA Thread
I think most people would agree with you Guru14. Problem is that the Executive see it as something unique that separates the VTCA from all other competitions. So it will never change with the current bunch of buffoons on the Executive.
Also agree with InGoodTouch regarding...
Re: VTCA Thread
Anti climax on the permits and clearances page as usual. The executive will have so much mail they won't know what to do with it in the last week of September.
Interesting that Bentleigh and Pt Melb would be the most likely to have their ground unavailable for Round 1, they...
Re: VTCA Thread
Rob Cassell would need some of that Bruce Reid sticky tape if he was to return to the baggy blue.
Chunky Albers might be just the ticket for Aberfeldie Park but they'll need someone else to stand up. One man bands can't win flags - they just always come undone come finals...
