Hahaha! good ones! Dave and Ben. But, I find tailenders difficult to remove - I keep missing the edge because of the amount of turn I get and on concrete pitches, I can never get an lbw or a bowled with a topspinner ( don't have a match-ready flipper yet).
That said, I feel a lot more...
Wow! you hit the nail on its head. I was just discussing with a fast bowler in our club about the bracing of the knee and when he couldn't understand what it meant, I tried to show it to him. In that process, I realized that the front knee is braced only if your delivery stride is long enough to...
I wanted to share with you guys the news of my election as the club captain for this season. (We gave a talk each and then had a Q/A session with the club members and then they voted me in.) At first glance, that means a lot more bowling for me and the fields that I want. :D
Yep, I think (at least in stand start drill), just get the hand up high over your head before you do anything else. Then even if you forget about it and concentrate on your release, the instinct kicks in and you will have a much stronger delivery than otherwise.
You can tell that by looking at...
Dave nice bowling in the second video, but in the first, I know it is just the stand-start drill, but it might be a good idea to get that front hand up there, really strong (to ingrain that habit). (That is also the first step of the windmill that dr.tran talks about, where front shoulder goes up)
Thanks, that explains quite a lot. But, I do wonder about hte bracing of front knee that you talked about earlier - in this case with the steady torso, front shoulder(non bowling arm) going down from a height and the bowling arm and hips following - it all seems to work easily as long as the...
Brilliant doctortran. your posts should be printed out into a book. one reason for many of us to come over here and check bc everyday.
Just wondering if staying side on is just another way of saying what you described here. Some start side on, but are said to open up before they bowl ( macgill...
Even with the seam running straight through, I flick the wrist. I have no idea why it bounces more , but to hazard a guess, I would say it is because on this axis of rotation, the ball is out of shape (or irregularly shaped) as opposed to rotation about the seam when the shape is that of a...
Great observation Dave! I've never really thought about the release in that great a detail. The only thing I've focussed on is the position of the wrist. Now that you have shown the video, I realize that I have been always doing it this way - with the thumb folding back into the fist at the end...
Look at this video - Harbhajan has apparently got a new ball. We all know it is just a standard backspinner/offspinning flipper. But the amount of back spin he's getting is interesting.

Agree with everything you said except the part about balaji rao not creating problems in the air- Watch today's match closely and you will find that he gets appreciable drift and dip. (Drift is easy to see, but dip is very difficult to notice from our elevated camera views.)...
Weekend was fun- Low scoring matches at last! The pitch reports were biased- no one seems to want to predict a low scoring pitch. The lowest "par score" predicted was 240 in the ENG vs SA match on which both teams found the going really really tough. I loved it, and after looking at the amount...
I'm no fan of Afridi either- cue the ball biting incident and all the shenanigans that accompanied it (Testing the ball apparently!)
But, he is one tough gangster who has managed to get the Pak team together.
That is the funny thing. In the entire spell if there was one really inspirational...
Right you are! but I still feel that for a good leggie, tahir relies too much on his googly to get the wickets - of the 7 wickets he's got so far only 1 (afaik) is from a legbreak. The flipper was a treat to watch though. But the idiots didn't even try to show a closeup.
Yep, Provided ofcourse they can impart enough revs on it. Most of the left arm spinners barely turn it past the outside edge - ray price(ZIM), Rangana Herath (SL), Peterson, P Harris(SA), Abdur Rehman(PAK), yardy(ENG), yuvraj singh(IND), Daniel Vettori (NZ), SJ Benn(WI), S Al Hasan, Abdur...
Dockrell is left arm orthodox meaning a left arm finger spinner, even though he got hit in the match against England, I was still impressed with the intent he showed. Of course the defeat against Irish means Tahir is doubly dangerous for them now, but I think there is one ray of hope - It seemed...
Thanks a lot Richard. I've looked up the Ignite gloves you've linked to and they seem to be a nice pair. I will place an order shortly and hope that they fit me right.
Thought I'd create a new thread to collate all the observations about spin bowlers and tactics being employed in the world cup going on right now. Firstly, I'll go with one spinner who's had us all excited (and for good reason) - Imran Tahir -
I've been trying in vain to figure out how exactly...
Thanks Richard. Problem is that a couple of times I batted with men's sized gloves in our team kit, I found the fit extremely uncomfortable.(fingers felt cramped) on the other hand some of the others suited me much better. Going by that chart, I should go for large men's but haven't found such...
I live in the US and am trying to ship a pair of batting gloves before the season begins. I was wondering if there is any way I can find the size best suited for my hands before I order them and find them ill-fitting.
