Correct me if im wrong, but Parkdale CC are in the DDCA? Their 1's were near the bottom of Turf 2. So no they wouldn't be considered. And are probably focused on working there way up towards Turf 1.
Parkdale United are in the VTCA. And you're right they're a million miles from subbies standard...
Austin and Salm would both get more than that if they wanted to try their luck on the free market. Salm was in this year's team of the year. He'd get double that elsewhere.
$50K sounds like a lot. Maybe 40k more likely? There are other clubs in Melbourne that spend that kind of money too.
It's about finding that balance. The balance amongst enough numbers, the right skill level of cricketers and how long the preseason goes for, bulding up for round 1.
The problems is, many of clubs better cricketers also play footy so its a trickey juggling act
Didn't HMU come about from a merger between Hawthorn and monash uni (subbies?)
I'd suggest that if the merger fell over, it would set Kingston back a lot.
There's district clubs that haven't gone back yet!
Lets hope they don't peak in August! Especially with the (presumably) later start to the season. That being said, better to kick off now that the Tuesday before the game.
Show some class mate.
I think Research will be competitive this season. Malone, Turner and Burton all capable of contributing with bat and ball. They just need some strong role players around these guys.
In fairness mate he's an import and he is entitled to seek the best deal he can get (be it for $$$ or personal development). When you get a professional to your club, if he performs poorly you'll piss him off and if he performs very well he'll catch the eye of other clubs, pushing up his market...
There isn't a clear delineation between paid and unpaid players when people are speculating that players are getting their money in a brown paper bag.
Recruitment announcements are often greeted with raised eyebrows and explanations like "playing with mates", "knows the coach", "knows somebody...
This sort of thing is what is thrashed out in the detail. If somebody played subbies at a club then went to premier and is coming back. He'd be considered a junior, or home grown player.
If they're going to go to a subbies club they never played at, if they're a 1s or 2s premier cricketer...
I think it'll be Lalor, Banyule, Eltham || NEW, Heidelberg and maybe LP fighting it out for that last spot.
Hurstbridge will be closer to the bottom than the top (along with Camrea, Mill Park). Would have thought Whittlesea are in the box seat for the wooden spoon. They've lost a few of their...
To some degree thats to do with the vagaries of cricket. The way Malvern can knock off Plenty Valley and Caulfield in the finals just won't happen in footy.
In many regards it is irrelevant. The first step is to decide to use a points system. Then the competition in consultation with the clubs can begin to decide what that looks like a) No. of points per player type (including depreciation), b) points cap, c) transition period etc.
The VSDCA...

Looks like it was spot on.
Recruiting hampered by the fact that they'll potentially be moving to premier cricket the following year. I wonder...
