Re: A confidence issue?
I wouldn't be recommending the tennis-ball-against-a-wall plan. Great little test for hand eye coordination, but not for technique training for a very simple reason - it doesn't mimic the natural batting process. It's very similar to why dropping a ball in front of you...
Re: Can an umpire remove a player from the field of play?
A lot of the leagues down here are investigating/ implementing a Soccer (football for the poms) style yellow/ red card system to stamp out bad behaviour. A yellow for minor offences, a red for serious offences.
It's a great idea, if...
Re: Bowling Action
:(:(:(
I like the dive bomber push ups... but as a challenge more than a staple strengthening exercise. I guess a week or two of them to randomise your training a little would be good (if you're doing them properly), but weighted push ups and press ups are definitely...
Re: The Back-Lift???
The issue with most peoples backlift isn't necessarily the bats maximal height, but when it gets to that point.
Ideally you would like bat to reach it's apex at the the point of delivery; from there you are in the most efficient place to either a) raise the bat further/...
Re: Best way to gaining weight
... oh and sleep. quality sleep is fundamental to recovery! eat big, train big, sleep big and you've got yourself a recipe for increasing muscle mass!
Re: taking guard
Taking guard is not an exact science. In my belief there are a couple of fundamentals, and a couple of optionals to consider when taking guard.
1) width of feet; how far your feet are seperated will effect your balance and, to a degree, dictate which shots you are able to...
Re: Dangers of muscle building
Hahahaha, I knew mentioning Splenda would get a rise out of David or yourself. :)
My current degree is pretty far removed from anything remotely fitness related, but i'm 100% sure that I'll end up in fitness in some capacity - it's just a question of whether...
Re: Dangers of muscle building
Wow, I'm digging the spammer that brought this thread back to life.
From the research i've done (which isn't much more than different strength and conditioning journals, and reading up on some pretty respected strength coaches), this is still a really grey area...
Re: Best way to gaining weight
sorry, meant to write a little more after that, but accidently hit post and figured i come back to it.
I imagine you're coming to the back end of your season now?
I wouldn't be focusing on putting on muscular bulk right now. Look to clean up your diet - move...
Re: Best way to gaining weight
Two things that strike me...
1) Hope you don't mind me being blunt, but your diet is rubbish.
2) For a person of that height, you're a skinny kid and lack any real muscle. You need an increase in lean muscle mass and stat... And that's easy as!
Re: Bowling Action
eat well. don't buy suppliments... unless they are a) a GOOD multivitamin, b) fish oil, or c) whey protein for post work outs. but eating well will remove the need for any of them.
a break sounds like just what you need. i'm not sure what age you are, but it's good to cycle...
Re: Problems with run up
fixing the second part is pretty easy - and i think it would very quickly fix the first part.
as the bulk of the problems occur during when the bowler is bowling to right handers, without seeing any video, I would believe that the bowler has classic left handed bowler...
Re: muscle training in batting
just a pointer; while you can train your eyes to an extent - it is a relatively genetic thing. don't get carried away with trying to do hours and hours of eye training excercise, it won't be super beneficial.
what you can do is face a whole lot of bowling. while...
Re: Speed - running
squat... or lunge- or as they say, work towards developing some 'junk in the trunk' - i.e. a muscular rear end.
the single most under rated muscle group by men. also the most useful for power development, and back and hamstring health.
Re: Fittness
My preference in order of convenience/ price/ usefulness...
a) Boxing kit; Regardless of it's potential for aiding strength/ power and cardio. health, I firmly believe that the greatest benefit of boxing is the understanding of how your body moves - the best, and most powerful...
Re: AFL
going to have to agree to disagree here, Jonesy, haha.
I just don't think it would be playing normally to leave one defender on a bloke that's kicked 7 goals in a half - especially when the opposition team was making it clear that they were ONLY going to kick it to that one bloke. I...
Re: How Was Your Day Topic
Woke up at 6 30; off to work... where I've done the sneaky and completed one and a half uni essays that are due in... ooh, about two hours (better get moving on that second one), and done a total of 5 minutes of productive work.
can't wait to finish up, hand in...
Re: AFL
I don't know. I disagree.
Buddy was being tripled team before he kicked his hundred; he was being triple teamed after he kicked his hundred. That's what you do when the ball is getting drilled down to one bloke in particular. Seems unfair that Carlton is allowed to do it, but Hawthorn...
Re: AFL
Fev, being the ego maniac he is, is properly happier that he got 99 and will be the only person for a long time to kick it. It's fitting though - brilliant full forward who just missed the boat. Kind of sums him up.
