    Test XI Selection Thread

SBS reporting on cricket, or the possible Mitch Marsh choice? I'm never a fan of picking a Test player based on other formats. Admittedly they did it with Johnson last summer, and that surprisingly worked.

    No Cricket At The Olympics

Anything where the biggest trophy isn't the Olympic gold shouldn't be at the Olympics. Test cricket is the only important thing in international cricket, and only T20 would be any chance of being played at the Games. Therefore it shouldn't be there. The idea that it would lead to the game's...

Most Beautiful International Cricket Ground In The World

Absolutely, I'm a sucker for those types of landscapes. And the main stands looks like cricket grandstands, but with a sense of place. The style suits the setting, reminiscent of Himalayan style buildings (or, at least, of the stereotypical Tibetan or Nepalese ones we occasionally see images of...

Most Beautiful International Cricket Ground In The World

Dharmashala does look spectacular. Most open grounds have something about them, whether it be cityscapes or landscapes. As much as I love the MCG for its atmosphere and heritage, its not "beautiful" in any way whatsoever.

    Is Mankading Okay?

Its fine. The tradition is a warning or two, and even that was followed in the latest example. I wouldn't mind seeing the playing condition used at internataional level revised so that a batman has a little more leeway when the ball is not released. But the rules are the rules, and in this case...

The Best Spinner In The History Of Cricket

As far as Indians go, Bishin Bedi rates right up there. I'm biased but would go with Warne. He basically reinvented leg spin, which had largely gone out of the game outside the subcontinent. That is, at least in modern times. O'Reilly or Grimmett have claims to Australia's best ever, and...

Odi: Is 1 Day Cricket Doomed?

Yeah, I am. The BCCI is by far the most powerful organisation in the game. The ICC really is toothless, and basically has no real powers at all.

Odi: Is 1 Day Cricket Doomed?

No. No it really isn't. India holds some nations to ransom, and the other large nations are complicit in anthing that advances their own interests above those of the game. The ICC is only as powerful as the most powerful national boards allow - that is, not at all.

    Best/Worst Cricketing Achievements

I'm not sure if he was batting out of his crease or not. He stumbled a little coming forward, missed the ball, and didn't think to regain his ground. Presumably he didn't realise he was out of his ground. The keeper underarmed the ball and hit the stumps.

    Best/Worst Cricketing Achievements

A long time ago (mid 1990s) we were back at the pub by 2pm after a 1pm start in a one day game. Opposition all out for 16, including the first ball of the innings being a stumping off our quickest bowler. The total was chased down in 9 (might have been ten) deliveries. Admittedly, they were...

    Test XI Selection Thread

It really shows how weak our spin stocks are, and how little confidence anyone can have in Wade's ability to keep to them. I'm not a fan of having an "all-rounder" who is not top six with the bat or top four with the ball, but with so many in the (poorly chosen) squad it was inevitable at least...

    Australia In India

Given the squad, the only differences I would have are Khawaja in for Henriques, and probably Bird for Starc. You do not need two spinners in India. You need good spinners in India. If you have two good spinners, then pick them. But India generally play spin better than anyone, so they have to...

    Australia In India

At least these aren't "additional" games, but what would normally be played as part of a Test tour. I'm not a fan of the timing (or limited overs only tours in general), and seven is too many, but this one is almost understandable. The gap between the Test and limited overs legs is certainly...

Odi: Is 1 Day Cricket Doomed?

There's a lot of truth in that. I thoink the major thing missing is context. Too many one day games are played but they only mean anything in the World Cup. This goes to scheduling more broady, with with specific refernce to the 50 over game: - 5 before a Test series is fne, but in a "best of"...

Odi: Is 1 Day Cricket Doomed?

On reducing the 50 over game to 40 or 30 or whatever overs, won't that just decrease its difference form the 20 over game. It just makes the longer limited form even less relevant, as it loses its distinction from the 20 over variety. If one form goes, it goes. So long as Tests are given the...

Odi: Is 1 Day Cricket Doomed?

The point of both limited overs forms is money. We're therefore stuck wit T20, like it or not. On the 50 over game, I don't see the point of reducing the overs. All that does is reduce the differentiation between it and T20. Far too many games are played though. A key point of the way I would...

    channel nine cricket commentators

I can't stand Slater. Healy I can almost put up with if he is not on with Slater or Taylor. None of the modern players are any good. Greig is hopelessly compromised with all the selling of the memorabilia rubbish (I hope he gets well and decides to retire). Lawry is better now he is only there a...

    In Swing Out Swing

As I say, its a best guess without seeing your action. (And without bing a coach, I can only go by what worked for me and what I have seen/heard from others.) As you say, it could also be the grip or seam angle, or you might fall away in the action without realising it, causing a "right arm by...

    In Swing Out Swing

ZacDuggan and shortextracover129, I doubt anyone could give definitive answers on a forum like this; particularly with so little information. Zac, are you saying you can swing the ball either way with a seam up? That's not a big surprise in itself, the angle to slip/leg slip increaes swing for...
