    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I normally bat down at eleven, and playing spin is generally my strong suit as I'm pretty light on my feet, and have a decent eye. I batted against a decent off-spinner in the nets the other day, and felt pretty good to bat out a couple of overs against him without getting out. He wasn't...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Yeah, it feels so easy when you flick it from hand to hand, but actually getting through your action with it is much more difficult. Still, if leg-spin was easy, it wouldn't be as worth doing.

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I reckon it's jumping up because of a combination of me bowling slow (I can't control it any faster yet) and a spongy net surface. I agree that it turning isn't much of a problem, potentially makes it more difficult to play. I'll have to bowl it on a proper surface to see if it will skid properly.

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

That's interesting with the flipper, because I've had a little bit of a go at bowling it in the nets, and while I'm not getting it to skid much (possibly due to the sort of net surfaces I've bowled on), but it does seem to turn a bit, whilst jumping up slightly, but pretty slowly. It'd be...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Interesting, I just had a go with a tennis ball in the garden, and I can get the release close, but not many revs. Still, I'm having a net practice tomorrow, I'll start giving it a proper go.

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I don't really trust my googly enough to bowl it in matches yet, so the only variation was this wristy off break which I think batsmen pick easily, I only bowled two, one was a full toss and the other was a half-tracker. I think all the effort going in to disguising it obscured the actual ball...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I had a reasonable day today, a little expensive, but I'll take 7-0-43-2 as my first bowling for quite a while. Both wickets came in pretty much the same way, batsman beaten in the flight, smashed it up in the air to mid off. Flight felt good generally, batsmen didn't want to come forward and I...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I'd echo that, I also think a routine around starting your spells might help, I used to just get the ball off the captain, wait for the batsman to get ready, then just trot into bowl, but now I try to have a routine before I start. Before you start bowling I'd recommend marking out your run-up...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I said fine leg, but that might be disingenuous, it's much more of a long leg/deep backward square. It's there for my frequent leg side drag downs, which generally get dispatched in that sort of direction. Also, I agree with you about setting up batsmen, it's not one of my stronger points, I...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I generally set a fairly standard leg-spinners field, the only things that I really insist on is having long off back and mid on up, and that I don't generally want a slip until I've got into my rhythm. Other than that, I generally like to keep men in the circle, other than fine leg back, but my...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

I always feel like I'm happy with giving away a few more runs the more wickets I take. I normally play in 40 over games, so if I bowl out my eight overs, I'd be happy with giving away 50 if I took three or four wickets, but if I only get one wicket, or no wickets, I'd feel like I hadn't...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Thanks for the welcome guys. That's some bowling figures that you picked up gundalf7, I bet you wish you could roll up that pitch and carry it around with you! Also shows the importance of good close fielders, and having catching fielders in the first place. When I was bowling on Sunday the...

    Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Hello everyone, I've been enjoying reading through all 61 pages of this thread, so I thought I'd sign up and join in. I had my first game of the season today, in about the worst conditions possible for a leg-spinner. Drizzly, damp mis-shapen ball (looked like a flying saucer by the time I got...
