History shows at the start of a new season the common (uninformed) opinion is teams promoted to Dunstan Shield struggle. From memory most said Heathmont would be back in A Turf in 14/15. Actually they were in Finals contention till the last round. Oh and Bulleen won Dunstan Shield after being in...
Congrats to Bulleen. Been the dominant team all season and continued that through the finals.
Back-to-back flags in the past two seasons is a great effort.
If Dunstan Shield team were movies in 2013/14
Bulleen: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Deepdene Bears: Million Dollar Baby
North Balwyn: Lone Ranger
Mulgrave: The Lucky One
Hawthorn: Groundhog Day
Heathmont: The Hobbit: An unexpected journey
Ashburton Willows: anything by Micahel Bay...
Yea, I'm sure Skevs are kicking themselves to finish second bottom of F Turf! In an 8 team competition you would hope to finish in at least Top 6. ;)
Although Skevs can take heart from last season. North Balwyn just avoided relegation in 2012/13 and 12 months later they are playing Finals...
Hawthorn have a poor percentage and could still drop out if they lose and Mulgrave win. Same as Heathmont who have a slightly better percentage.
And with a two day game there is always a chance of an outright.
At Christmas Marcellin OC were without a win were odds on to be relegated but three...
Showers clearing generally means play gets on so wouldn't go calling off this Saturday just yet. Careful going too early with big statements as they can back fire.
From memory earlier this season someone from Glen Iris said that Old Carey were the most mentally weak side they had ever played...
Will be interesting decision regarding heat. Losing toss and 80 overs in the field would not be a good day. At least a one day game makes it same conditions for both teams.
A 10 Team A Turf wouldn't be the worst idea, problem is you will play some teams twice and fixture could become compromised. History has shown Second XIs struggle in A Turf as they are playing against other clubs Firsts. I think Bulleen and Heathmont have shown the standard between Dunstan and A...
Round 11 will see Marcellin play St Kevins, who aren't traveling too flash at the moment. That match could see who stays up and who goes down for 2014/15
Maybe took the bottom side too lightly, unavailabilities due to long weekend? Either way massive day for Surrey Hills. Provided they get the remaining runs next week (with 30+ degrees forecast all week should expect decent wickets) they then play Marcelin the following week. The winner of that...
Some interesting games this round.
Mulgrave v Hawthorn (Hawthorn need win to stay in Top 4, Mulgrave need win to stay in touch with Top 4)
Mont Albert v Ashburton Willows (Ashburton win and could move into Top 4, Mont Albert any chance of Finals and defending their premiership need a win)...
Could you have Glen Iris and Glen Iris A in A Turf? Bit like the One Day Series back in the mid 1990s when Australia A were added to the mix along with England and Zimbabwe? It was an Aus v Aus A Final and Australia took Paul Reifel from Aus A and made him 12th man.
Surprised no one has said...
Cooper toned up. Sennek 97.
Ashy Willows scored 99 runs off last 11 overs. Tipping ball spent a bit of time in Gardiners Creek.
Anyone know why GI didn't go with a Pom this season? Had pretty good success with previous Poms. Couldn't be for lack of money. Got a war chest to rival any ECA club.
Said loser of GI v AW would 'probably' miss finals. Didn't say 'certainly' miss finals. Although reckon other teams are hoping to get GI in a final. Darren Milane would have a better chance of getting past a semi.
North Balwyn will make finals. Not sure why they are so unliked. Never had any...
This round marks half way point of the season. Some important games in the final round before Christmas.
Bulleen (1) v Mulgrave (4) Winner will have one foot in finals for March
Glen Iris v Ashburton Willows (local rivals who don't like each other. Loser can probably say goodbye to Finals)...
2010/11 was terrible for weather. Fortunately most were Day 1 so matches turned into one dayers on week 2
We haven't lost a day of turf matches yet this season. In the last three weeks been able to use turf nets five out of six training sessions.
All comes down to having a good curator (or six).
