I'm not sure how I feel about it yet but throwing it out there for 'constructive comments'; what about a 3-day Grand Final, Sat/Sun/Sat? You need to win on first innings and gives an opportunity for teams to win on the 2nd inning as well.
I know there are definitely logistics to be worked...
Anyone else oppose the thinking of a procession in the S/E this week? Caulfield vs Oakleigh in the big dance.
North/West a bit harder to pick. Wiliamstown and Kew for me.
Malvern have some awesome momentum. Haven't lost since before Christmas. Luke Walker no doubt the most consistent bat in the League without a ton. Bowling unit is clicking. I'm picking an upset.
Caulfield and Bayswater the other winners.
Gives a Semi Final setup of:
Caulfield vs Oakleigh...
Would think that would be the only reason they are protesting. Getting very messy. If I were Brighton and this was the outcome, I'd be appealing the appeal!!
He might need to consider how to save existing Clubs first before expanding. It sounds like maybe 1, possibly 2 Clubs could be exiting Subbies, meaning a top up of 2 and then to add more Clubs in. I'm not sure we want to see Subbies become a revolving door.
No doubt there will be plenty of Roosters backing Bayswater and Balwyn in this week. Unfortunately a washout vs Moorabbin and a loss to Endeavour could cost them a Finals appearance.
Hard to see Brighton losing to Balwyn, having said that Malvern still need to beat Elsternwick. Bayswater's...
It's always an interesting discussion around this time of year about what to do with the 4th XI at VSDCA level. Subbies have tried a few things this year which I commend them on (i.e. One Dayers before Xmas, 40/40 split innings match)
4th XI - when used correctly - is such a critical cog for...
Top 6 predictions after Round 11:
South/East:
Caulfield
Oakleigh
Noble Park
Box Hill
Brighton
Malvern
North/West
Melton
Williamstown
Brunswick
Plenty Valley
Kew
Yarraville
There will be a few teams pushing for an Outright this round (as always) to sneak in. Should be intriguing viewing.
I think after this round it will either become clearer or even more close in the S/E. Elsternwick v Box Hill, Ormond v Brighton, Croydon v Malvern and Balwyn v Bayswater are all 50/50 at the moment.
A bit easier to guess in the N/W, top 5 is pretty secure in my eyes, with Ivanhoe, Yarraville...
I was coming more from the other way - which is rescheduling a 2 day game into 2- one-day games on a Saturday. I guess ground availability creates issues. Just a thought. Some teams may have been in winning positions 2 games in a row, might have walked away with half points. Malvern is probably...
In situations like this, what are people thoughts on re-fixturing where the 2nd week gets washed out, replacing a 2-day game with 2 one day games to get more results in a season?
A few teams unlucky to miss out on 6 points.
And if I've read the fixture correctly, Round 2 which is next Tuesday (Dec 5) reads:
Brunswick v Plenty Valley
Yarraville v St Bernards
Hoppers Crossing v Altona
Caulfield v Kew
Moorabbin v Elsternwick
Oakleigh v Endeavour Hills
Box Hill v Croydon
Some big scores on the weekend - team and individuals!
Ivanhoe 6/337
Willy 304
Preston 302
Caulfield 338 - Thorne another ton - 161*
And a bat from Endeavour made 160
My initial thoughts were Chris Rogers to Oakleigh.
But both Tillekaratne Dilshan and Thilan Samaraweera live in S/E Melbourne.
Bit more scary - Mahela Jayawardene moved to Melbourne last year as well.........
Agree, what do the struggling Subbies Clubs do when they get kicked off their grounds and Clubrooms because CV pulled the wallet out for local Councils?
Perhaps Subbies should look at either introducing equalisation methods or be prepared to become a 14-16 team competition
