06/07: The emergence of the cricket prodigy that is Cameron White.
Cameron White.
For those of us who have watched the lad from a young age we have always known just how special this kid is.
Can go the tonk as good as anyone in world cricket but also has the vital ability to bat in an elegance manner in the long form of the game. Future Australian Test side top 6 batsmen, on batting capacity alone; as highlighted by his World Record 260 not out, a mere couple weeks back.
For someone of such a tender age his fielding and leadership abilities are unparallel and will only get better in time. Somewhat criticised for his bowling, he has better stats the apparent top spinner prospects Cullen & Casson (do a search, or click here). Leg spin is an art which takes many years to master and with the lad still so young he will end up a very handy batting all-rounder who’s Anil Kumble type action will bring many batsman undone.
Of late he is maturing and bringing his lofty potential into fruition. Coming off a solid yet not spectacular season he went to England and put on a show.
• In August 2006: he scored the highest ever individual total of a batsman in the fourth innings of a first-class match, with 260 not out.
• June 27, 2006: White hit the (then) equal-highest score in the history of the Twenty20 Cup, when he hit 116 not out off just 53 balls (strike rate of 218.87 runs
• 12 days later: White hit a world-record 141 not out off just 70 balls
Should be in the current Australian ODI side coming in late (6-8) where his destructive Symonds / Gilchrist batting will finish the knock will finish the 50 over’s of nicely, just what the doctor ordered in the last 5-10 overs.
He will domainte this Australian summer and become a important ODI and long term Test player for the might Australian side.
At only 23, comming into his 4th season as Victorian captian (under which the Vics have seen lots of success), comming off eight centuries in various forms of the game in Pommyland; the like of Moises Henriques, Shane Watson and in wider terms Kallis and Flintoff might just have to a back seat.
