2nd ODI: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Napier

This game is well underway. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat, racking up 5/335 off their 50 overs. Peter Fulton top scored with 83 and Jamie How scored 74. All of the NZ batters got starts as they were lifted to an impressive total with some late fireworks from Jacob Oram with 55 off only 31 balls.

Abdur Razzak took two wickets for Bangladesh but was incredibly expensive taking 2/75 from 10 overs.

In reply, Bangladesh started pretty well but Kyle Mills has come and spoiled the party taking three quick wickets. He has 3/22 as Bangladesh went from 0/63 to 3/68.

3/70 now, the required run rate is already up to eight an over.

Vettori gets Tushar Imran LBW. 4/108 in the 28th over, Bangladesh need 10 runs per over. Do they know that it's a one-day game?

Re: 2nd ODI: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Napier

Bangladesh up to 4/140 after 35 overs. The Tigers need in excess of 13 runs per over now but Vettori has a small problem now, he needs to find 50 overs out of his bowling line-up.

Mark Gillespie is off the ground with a shoulder injury and now Scott Styris is in the pavillion for an unknown reason. Provided Bangladesh bat 50 overs, Mills, Martin, Vettori and Oram will all have to bowl their full ten overs and if Styris stays off the ground, Ross Taylor may have to bowl seven overs (he's already bowled one over already). This may present an opportunity for Bangladesh to score some quick runs as they have batted far too slowly.

Mills gets his fourth wicket, 5/141 in the 37th over. Mills now has 4/33 and has bowled quite well.

Farhad reza is the new batsman.

Re: 2nd ODI: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Napier

Well, Vettori's bowling problem didn't eventuate. New Zealand won by 102 runs using the Duckworth/Lewis method. Bangladesh's revised target was 284 off 43 overs, they were never going to get there and finished on 6/181. Mills took 4/40 and Vettori 2/30.

Aftab Ahmed was top scorer with 54 and Tamim Iqbal made 43.

So, too easy for New Zealand, they piled on the runs early and Bangladesh just didn't have enough urgency early for them to challenge the NZ total.
The third and final game of this series will take place at Queenstown on New Years Eve.

Re: 2nd ODI: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Napier

Well, I would have thought the third ODI would still be going but it wasn't to be so i'll just post the analysis here.

Bangladesh batted first after being sent in by New Zealand. They were then bowled for for a paltry 93 off 37.5 overs. Mohammad Ashraful top scored with 25 and was the only batter to score over 20. Daniel Vettori was the destroyer, taking an impressive 5/7 off six overs. Michael Mason and Kyle Mills took two wickets with Jacob Oram snaring the other wicket.

In reply, New Zealand blasted their way to a staggering 0/95 off only six overs, a run rate of 15.83. The chief culprit was Brendon McCullum who scored an amazing 80 not out off only 28 balls. His innings included 9 fours and 6 sixes helping to his innings strike rate to 285.71, almost unheard of really. Jamie How on the otherhand was the total opposite making seven not out off eight balls.

It was a truly amazing display from McCullum, his innings was the second quickest 50 scored in ODI cricket and had Bangladesh scored more runs, he would have been a good chance to break the record for the fastest ODI century which is held by Shahid Afridi.

This game and series also poses the question of whether Bangladesh are even good enough to be playing against the other test nations. Their recent displays have been nothing short of embarassing. Surely questions must be asked now.

Anyway, New Zealand won by 10 wickets and wins the series 3-0. Daniel Vettori was Player of the Match for his 5/7.

The test series starts on January 4.
