2nd ODI: New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Queenstown

The first ODI was a very entertaining game with both teams proving very capable with the bat. But it was Sri Lanka who triumphed through the explosive Jayasuriya who smashed 111 off just 82 balls and helped Sri Lanka get the target after just 40 overs. Ross Taylor was very impressive for New Zealand with a well-made 128.

All bowlers copped a hammering especially the Kiwis who at one stage were leaking around nine runs per over. The NZ bowlers have got to improve if they want to win this series. They bowled poorly and Jayasuriya made them pay and by the time he was out, the game was all but over.

The Kiwis will be eager to level the series at one-all but Sri Lanka will want to get this lead out to 2-0 and get some good form going with the World Cup less than three months away.

Re: 2nd ODI: New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at Queenstown

New Zealand won a thriller in the end. The Kiwis restricted Sri Lanka to 7/224 off their 50 overs. Sangakkara made 89 with Gillespie and Mason taking two wickets each.

New Zealand started well and had some useful contributions, McCullum made 32 and James Marshall made a nice 50 but the Kiwis lost consistente wickets and with one over left, they needed obe run to win with one wicket in hand.

Mason, the number 11 would face the final over bowled by Jayasuriya, Mason couldn't get the ball away, hit it to the bowler and the fieldsman on many occasions and the first five balls were dots so it all came down to the last ball. He managed to get it away and to the boundary for four meaning New Zealand won by one wicket.

James Franklin was Man of the Match for his 45 not out and 1/46.
