2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

The second game in this series starts today with Pakistan looking to get one back on South Africa in what has been a pretty disappointing effort so far. Whatever happens, Shahid Afridi holds the key for Pakistan and believe it or not, heads into this game like the last ODI as the team's oldest and most experienced player. Hard to believe isn't it? Afridi batted at eight in the last game, which greatly surprised Graeme Smith and is far, far too low for a player of his quality.

Pakistan went into the last game with their side heavily skewed with batting talent and it was the batters who failed with Afridi proving a late revival but alas it was too much for even his hitting power.

Anyway, Abdur Rehman may replace Mohammad Hafeez in the Pakistan line-up with Danish Kaneria also a chance to play. I'm not sure why Danish can't get a game, he is a very good bowler although Rehman was Pakistan's leading wicket-taker in the test series.

No changes to the South African line-up, good to see Johan Botha back in the team after a long exodus due to a dubious action.

Will be an interesting game this one, Pakistan will be eager to make amends for what has been an ordinary home series while South Africa will be out to continue their recent good form. Fireworks are set to fly!

The fact that they're still having this game while bunch of horrible crap bigger than cricket going on over there is remarkable for me. I can't believe it.

It's all about money, Chandu. Everything is motivated by cash.

Pakistan were in a spot of bother early at 3/73 but Mohammad Yousuf and Shoaib Malik have batted well from there scoring 75 not out and 51 not out respectively. Earlier, Younis Kahn was run out for 32.

Pakistan are currently 3/168 in the 36th over.

Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini are the wicket-takers.

Also, both sides went in as expected which is above in the first post.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

Langeveldt finally gets Shoaib Malik for 56.
Yousuf is still in there on 82 though.
Pakistan 180-4 after 38.

Looks like they should be able to beat the 249 they were only able to manage in the first ODI.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

Shoaib Malik falls to Charl Langeveldt for 56.

4/180 after 37.5 overs.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

Pakistan finished with 9/265. Yousuf got 117 off 143. Ntini, Langaveldt and Morkel each took 2 wickets.

South Africa 2/4. Gibbs and Kallis got ducks. Gul and Tanir each with a wicket.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

South Africa have just lost another wicket. Smith and de Villiers were going well but Rao Iftikhar Anjum has struck with de Villiers playing a horrible swipe across the line and Rao takes middle and leg stump.

3/80 after 16.3 overs. Smith is 38 not out.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

Justin Kemp is LBW to Iftikhar Anjum for eight.

4/94 in the 23rd over. Iftikhar Anjum is bowling quite well.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

Boucher out to a soft caught and bowled dismissal courtesy of Shahid Afridi. Afridi gave the ball some flight and Boucher prodded forward but hit it straight into Afridi's waiting hands.

5/125 after 30 overs. Graeme Smith is 59 not out, he'll need to go on with the job here if South Africa want to get close. Pollock and Morkel are big hitters so they'll help a bit but Smith will need to score big.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

South Africa are 6/190 after 41 overs.

Graeme Smith fell for 65, caught behind off the bowling of Abdur Rehman. Albie Morkel and Shaun Pollock have shown they are capable though and so far their partnership has been 50 runs off just 6.4 overs.

Required rate is up to 8.44 runs per over.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

BigCricket curse strikes again!! :p

Pollock smashes it to Umar Gul in covers who fires a throw to Kamran Akmal and whipping off the bails finds Albie Morkel short of his crease.

7/195 after 41.5 overs.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

Bowling change works for Pakistan as Umar Gul as Pollock tries to give himself room but only edges it onto leg stump.

8/212 after 45.1 overs.

Charl Langeveldt is the new batsmen and has an ODI batting average of just 3.28.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

Johan Botha slogs one but straight to Sohail Tanvir at deep mid-wicket.

9/220 after 46.2 overs. Makhaya Ntini is the new batsman and has an average of 8.70.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Lahore

And that's it! Langeveldt goes for it but can only get it to Soahil Tanvir at mid-off.

South Africa are all out for 240 from 49.3 overs and Pakistan have won by 25 runs. Umar Gul finishes with figures of 3/59 and Rao Iftikhar Anjum 3/49.

So, Pakistan level the series with a win here at Lahore. Their fielding was shocking today at times, dropped catches and misfields were aplenty but they were still good enough to beat South Africa.

Mohammad Yousuf was Man of the Match for his century.

The next game of the series is at Faisalabad on Tuesday.
