2nd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Port Elizabeth

South Africa won a last-ball thriller in the first ODI, with New Zealand having made 248-6, South Africa managed 249-8 in exactly 50 overs. Jamie How scored 90 for New Zealand while de Villiers picked up 87 for the winners. Kyle Mills super figures of 5 wickets for only 25 runs were in vain.

So New Zealand will be hoping for a slight bit of revenge today. South Africa, I suppose, will be looking to win in a bit more commanding fashion.

Re: 2nd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Port Elizabeth

South Africa: 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Herschelle Gibbs, 3 Jacques Kallis 4 AB de Villiers, 5 JP Duminy, 6 Mark Boucher (wk), 7 Shaun Pollock, 8 Albie Morkel, 9 Johan Botha, 10 Andre Nel, 11 Charl Langeveldt.

New Zealand: 1 Lou Vincent, 2 Brendon McCullum (wk), 3 Jamie How, 4 Scott Styris, 5 Ross Taylor, 6 Mathew Sinclair, 7 Jacob Oram, 8 Kyle Mills, 9 Daniel Vettori (capt), 10 Mark Gillespie, 11 Jeetan Patel.

South Africa chose to bat first, but it looked like a bad decision early on. Gibbs was out in the first over, with Smith and de Villier following before 8 overs were up. South Africa was 26-3 after 10 overs.

Duminy finally fell in the 17th over, and South Africa was an equally dismal 56-4 after 20 overs.

Kallis was out just a few overs later, and Pollock and Boucher could only reach 84-5 after 30 overs.

Pollock and Boucher have kept the partnership going though, and at one point Pollock even hit 4 straight boundaries. He's up to 41 while Boucher is at 35. South Africa is 138-5 after 40, and it looks like they'll at least hit 200 now.

Re: 2nd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Port Elizabeth

The wickets have started falling again, with the latest being Pollock out for 52.

South Africa is 179-8 after 48 overs, with Botha and Nel in there. 200 may be out of reach now.

Re: 2nd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Port Elizabeth

Nel goes crazy in the final 2 overs and picks up 30 runs from 13 balls.
South Africa finishes 209-9.

Vincent was run out, but other than that, New Zealand seem to have gotten their chase off to a good start. They're 34-1 after 6 overs.

Re: 2nd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Port Elizabeth

Super partnership between McCullum and How!
They've taken New Zealand to 133-1 after 25 overs.
They just need 77 more for the victory, it would be nearly impossible for them to lose from this point.
McCullum is up to 70 and How is at 48.

edit: How just got his 50, 135-1 after 25.1

Re: 2nd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Port Elizabeth

McCullum was run out for 81 and How made 76 before falling to Charl Langeveldt. The damage was done though, New Zealand cruised to a very easy victory, reaching the target off only 38.4 overs.

Langeveldt was the only wicket-taker for South Africa. Shaun Pollock was once again economical.

McCullum and How were the joint winners of the Man of the Match award. The series now tied 1-1.
