3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

The final and deciding match in this short ODI series.

Steyn removes McCullum early, New Zealand is 16-1 after 5.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

South African bowlers have really made the runs tough to come by.
New Zealand is 54-2 after 15 overs.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

NZ still struggling at 4/80 after 23 overs.

Styris is 35 not out with Matt Sinclair yet to face a ball. Dale Steyn has two wickets with Langeveldt and Nel a wicket each.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

5/134 now after 36 overs. Run rate is only 3.72 per over.

Sinclair is 27 and Oram has faced seven balls for three runs.

Styris fell to Johan Botha for 60.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

New Zealand 6/188 off 45.

Oram got 34 off 38 and Sinclair is 42 off 64 not out.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

NZ made 8/238 off 50 overs, 50 runs off the last five over ensured they put up a decent total. Sinclair was run out for 73 and Jacob Oram scored 34 runs.

Steyn and Langeveldt finished with two wickets each.

South Africa are cruising in reply, 0/117 after 19 overs. Herschelle Gibbs has been brilliant, smashing the NZ attack to all parts of the Cape Town ground. Gibbs is already on 89 from just 73 balls, a knock which already has five sixes. Graeme Smith has taken on the anchor role and has 22.

Gillespie, Oram and Patel have all been well and truly carted around the ground today.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

Century to Gibbs, cracks Mark Gillespie for four to bring up the ton off only 77 balls.

0/140 in the 22nd over.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

Smith falls! Tries to loft Vettori into the stands but hits it straight to Gillespie at deep mid-wicket.

1/174 after 28 overs. Gibbs on 115.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

A flurry of wickets for New Zealand, Gibbs falls to Vettori for 119, de Villiers is out to Kyle Mills for two and then Jean-Paul Duminy is also out to Vettori for one run.

4/191 now in the 36th over with the runs drying up. Vettori's figures have improved to an impressive 3/33.

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

Ahahahaha, Lou Vincent (yes, Lou Vincent!!!) gets Kallis with his first ball of the match. Kallis edges a short and wide ball behind to McCullum for 30, unbelievable!!!

This means that Lou Vincent has an ODI bowling average is lower than any of the designated bowlers in the side. Rather remarkable really, and to get Kallis too who is such a class batsman. You know how the saying goes, sh*t gets wickets!! :D @|

And Vincent bowls a wicket maiden, this game has everything!!

Re: 3rd ODI: South Africa v New Zealand at Cape Town

Well, that didn't last too long. Shaun Pollock hits the winning four in the very next over off Jeetan Patel, scooped over midwicket to the boundary. That shot means South Africa win by five wickets, something which didn't look likely until a late NZ rally saw the wickets tumble.

Mark Boucher finishes 26 not out and Pollock undefeated on four.

Vettori ends up with figures of 3/33, another captain's effort but the other bowlers except for Kyle Mills and to a lesser extent, Scott Styris, failed to do anything of significance and bowled very poorly today. It also didn't help that the NZ batting line-up, especially the top order failed to score any decent knocks, the batting was left to the middle and lower order which is usually never a good sign.

So, South Africa win the series 2-1 and that completes New Zealand's brisk tour of South Africa. South Africa will head back to their domestic duties with the next round of SuperSport series matches starting on December 6. New Zealand meanwhile come to Australia for the annual Chappell-Hadlee series which starts on December 11 with a Twenty20 match here in my hometown of Perth. That game is then followed up by three ODI matches.

Sadly, the better team won today. Too many New Zealanders had mediocre performances today.

Gibbs was actually clearly LBW when on 4, but wasn't given out. New Zealand bowlers, especially Gillespie must've felt very hard done by. What an incredible use Gibbs made of this opportunity though. It's likely South Africa would've gone on to win even if Gibbs had been correctly given out early. I think Andre Nel, the match winner would have made sure they didn't lose. :D
