6 day tests? Better for cricket?

6 day tests? Better for cricket?

I've been thinking a bit about the state of the modern game and it struck me that we would be better off with an extra day for test matches.

Draw can be exciting but only rarely so, I think that a 'true' result is far more exciting and leads to more crowd involved. It would also mean that more people could get to see a game and there would be more revenue generated.

Anyone care to disagree?

Thats actually a good point from a spectators point of view. But for matches that finish early, then even more revenue will be lost. And there is also the case that the players may burn out quicker.

But you cant go past that extra day of cricket :D

hmmmm while i would love to see an extra day of cricket.... i believe we should stick with the good old 5 days.... dnt fix it if its not broken. as the sayin goes.....

Many people already consider Test cricket to be a very long game. Adding another day to a test match may help produce more results, but these days when the focus is on shortening the length of the game and making it more entertaining, I don't see that happening. The impetus should be on preparing result pitches. Then its up to the players to play positive cricket.

im pretty sure the reason that the test game leght was shortened was so that cricket got a bigger crowd?
but now that we have 20/20 and odi's we should let tests go back to nine days or until there is a result
anyone agree?

hmmmm i think its right now... i think it is plenty long enough on one pitch 4 2 teams to go head 2 head... by making it 5 days it bring strategic factors into the game on the captains behalf of when to retire and so forth.. i personally like the way they r played now

That would just promote negative cricket.

6 Day tests in the hottest countries.

Have longer lunches so players dont go out in blinding heat,.

Then again, it'd be solved with day/night tests ;)

The fact though is that Twenty20 attracts more spectators than a Test match. Increasing the length of Tests will have an impact on players too. Test Matches are already long and 5 days are sufficient for two teams to play two innings.
