Akram asks Ponting to shut up on Bangla issue

By a correspondent

Dhaka, February 24, 2006

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has asked Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting to shut up and carry on with his game and not to suggest that minnows Bangladesh be banned from Test cricket for not improving their standard.

"I personally feel that Ponting must shut up and look back to what they (Bangladesh) did against you in Cardiff last year and take a note of the latest one day win against Sri Lanka", he wrote in his column.

"Ponting's duty is to play cricket and lead his team and not to think about which teams should play at this level", he added.

Kind of an irresponsible comment from Ponting. He should instead be using his columns to appeal to Aussie fans to be humane.
