Ashes Tour match: Prime Minister's XI vs England XI at Canberra

And so it begins, the first match of the Ashes tour with the traditional game against the Prime Minister's XI. England are horribly out of form in the short version of the game and the Prime Minister's XI with their youth and enthusiasm could inflict some psychological damage on the Englishmen even before the first Ashes test even starts.

But the English will be looking for a first up win against a relatively inexperienced side. The English welcome back some key players with Giles, G. Jones and Hoggard all expected to play.

This is it everyone, it begins here!!

Prime Minister's XI squad (of 12):
TR Birt, MJ Cosgrove, MA Divin, BR Dorey, BW Hilfenhaus, PA Jaques, DJ Marsh, TD Paine, AM Ritchard, SW Tait, AC Voges, CL White (1 to be omitted)

England XVI:
JM Anderson, IR Bell, PD Collingwood, AN Cook, A Flintoff, AF Giles, SJ Harmison, MJ Hoggard, GO Jones, SI Mahmood, MS Panesar, KP Pietersen, LE Plunkett, CMW Read, AJ Strauss, ME Trescothick (5 to be omitted)

Umpires: TBA

Weather:

(All temperatures in Degrees Celcius)

Re: Ashes Tour match: Prime Minister's XI vs England XI at Canberra

there was some almighty hitting in the PM's XI innings.

Phil Jaques again in the runs 112 of 110 balls, Shaun Marsh belting them around at the end AND the most over-rated cricketer in Australia at the moment Cameron White of all people even hitting the ball at teh end of the innings with a couple of sixes in the last over.

Sajid Mahmood was very expensive 80 runs off 9 overs (and with a few no-ball problems), James Anderson 65 runs off 10 overs, Flintoff 55 off 10, Panesar 17 off 3 Overs.

Not a great start to the tour for England but with Harmison and Hoggard to come back who knows how well the bowlers will do

Should be a good chase for England, let's see how they go!

Was a very interesting first innings, England looked well below par.

Shouldnt this be posted in the Ashes forum, as it is part of the Ashes?

Re: Ashes Tour match: Prime Minister's XI vs England XI at Canberra

It can be a part of both. Since it is a "current series" game, I posted it here.

Anyway, England were bowled out for 181 off 38.4 overs.

Strauss managed to compile 67 and Collingwood 35 but no-on else could help them out. Mahmood hit a late 22 with two 6's but it was too little too late as Tait and Hilfenhaus ripped through the lin-up early in the innings. Tair picked up three with Hilfenhaus, Adam Ritchard and Cameron White all picked up 2 wickets. White also got a run-out.

So, a poor start to the tour for England. They'll face New South Wales next in a tour game.

Phil Jaques was man of the macth for his 112 and a catch.
