Ashley Nofke

i am posting a new thread about another fast bowler.

what do you think of Nofke? if he wasnt injured the selectors say he would have been picked ahead of Siddle. do you think this is right?

personally i would have picked him ages ago as soon as their was a free spot. if you dont know much about him then look him up. he was the player of the series last season (07/08) and was the third only person in the SS (or pura cup as it was then) to get over 50 wickets and over 500 runs in the one season. he was the second highest run scorer after Katich that season, which isnt too bad for a predominantly medium-fast bowler. add that to his lots of wickets and he was the best state player by a long way, and yet he only got 12th man. he isnt that old and is fairly quick and very consistent. a lot of people including McGrath himself said that his bowling style was much like his, except 10km/h quicker on average. he is also a great fielder taking many a great catch. the problem lies with his injuries lately. everytime he gets into a commanding and selectable position he has gotten injured, at the moment he has a back injury, but has almost recovered.

i think he should be allowed on the plane to the ashes if fit enough, even if just to run the drinks again.

i dont know much about him but them figures you put up sound excellent, im sure his day will come. i just looked up his stats and he seems to be a bowling allrounder which is handy, there may be a few ahead of him at this point in time for a test spot.

Re: Ashley Nofke

I'd be happy for him to run the drinks, or even replace McDonald. He's almost 32 though, so that could be against him.

Re: Ashley Nofke

I think he's missed his chance. If injuries hadn't curtailed him, he could have been in the side 18 months ago. Now, I think things are starting to get settled and that combined with his age means his chances for a debut are getting slimmer by the day.

his overall stats dont show what he has done. they arent that bad, but when compared to his last 2 seasons, plus how he plays as you watch him (ie always troubling the batsmen etc) makes him easily the best bowler in SS and the one dayers.

i think he may get the chance in the one day squad, and especially the T20s again. they dont worry as much with age for the limited overs formats.

i do believe that some players do just miss out because of bad luck, like hodge for example, but i do think that he should get a go at a test somewhere in the future.

im also saying it because hes a queenslander, and we all know how good they are!

theres just no future in playing him in a test, mcgain was picked at the age of 76 because he"s a specialist at a very hard art, noffke is just an allrounder and if he was going to make it he would have by now, i think he"ll just play T/20s and maybe the odd ODI.
