Atherton announces comeback.

Michael Atherton today announced he was coming out of retirement and making a comeback at the age of 38. In a suprise move that shocked cricket pundits across the world he said "I've felt this for some time, that there was an opportunity for me to make a comeback and I've still a lot to prove." Some commentators have been speculating on the timing of his announcement and why he would choose to come back now but Atherton tried to assuage the doubters by adding "England are having trouble filling the opener's slot vacated by Marcus Trescothick and I felt now was the right time to come out of retirement."

Atherton announced that he would be making himself available for selection for international duty at the beginning of the new English domestic season in 2007, after the World Cup has finished.

WTF? Is this a joke???

It could be, but a cynnical mind would say if it's true, it's funny that it coincides with Glenn McGrath's retirement.
