Australian Squad for 2011 World Cup

Predict Australia's line-up for the next World Cup, 2011 I think it is.

I'll pick a squad of 15.

Australia:
1. Haddin (wkt)
2. Watson
3. Ferguson
4. Clarke (cpt)
5. White (vc)
6. Voges
7. Hopes
8. Johnson
9. Lee
10. Hauritz
11. Siddle

12. Bollinger
13. Paine
14. Cosgrove
15. Henriques

I've taken some punts in the hope that class players in Cosgrove and Henrqiues finally take the next step. Cossie if he put his mind to hit could be a wonderful middle order ODI batsman in the Lehmann mould and would overtake Voges and Hopes. Henriques if he lived up to the hype and started performing consistently would be a chance as the next all rounder and could push out Hopes. I think Bollinger would be the back up quick as Hilfenhaus is not suited to ODI and Clark will have retired. Geeves, Laughlin, Harris, Nannes aren't up to international quality IMO. Paine should also be there as a back up batsman in his own right and also as a keeper. It will be Lee and Haddin's ODI goodbye. The team has many bowling options with Siddle, Hauritz, Lee and Johnson capable of 10 overs each with Watson and Hopes also capabale. Part timers include the spin of Voges and White, if White's bowling improves. Clarke won't bowl due to injuries.

Your thoughts?

Where is Ponting and Bracken? One would think they would both be playing and are both two of the best ODI players we have ever had.

I think Haddin might be around a bit longer too.

Re: Australian Squad for 2011 World Cup

Can't see Bracken playing much longer due to his degenerative knee injury, poor bloke. Has been a gun ODI bowler for a long period of time now.
I think Ponting would be 50-50 for the World Cup, next year will tell us if he goes on.
Ferguson's latest setback may see him miss the team for a while as he needs to work his way back.
Also, if Hilfenhaus can improve his ODI bowling he would be ahead of Bollinger.

Re: Australian Squad for 2011 World Cup

Based on yesterday's performance, Cosgrove would be better suited playing in the 'morbidly obese guys who don't value their wicket' world cup.

Australian Team 2011 World Cup

1. David Warner
2. Phil Hughes
3. Cam White
4. Michael Clarke
5. Ricky Ponting *
6. Shane Watson
7. Mitchell Johnson
8. Tim Paine +
9. James Hopes
10. Brett Lee
11. Nathan Hauritz

Ben Hilfenhaus
Peter Siddle
David Hussey
Callum Fergusson

I am assuming Ponting will retire from 50 over cricket after this this World Cup.

NSW are showing that it's productive to have proper (big hitting) openers in the shorter forms of the game in the Champions Trophy. It's time to do the same in the Aust teams in 1-day and T20 cricket. Watson and Paine bat down the order. My team has a loooong tail, obviously the fast bowling stocks could be changed by adding Hilf and dropping Hopes, but I like the all round capabilities of Johnson, Watson, Hopes and Lee all being good bats as well as bowlers.

Re: Australian Squad for 2011 World Cup

Warner, Hughes, Katich, Clarke, Thornely, Henriques, Watson, Haddin, Hauritz, Lee, Bollinger

Clark and Bracken wont be around

:D

In all seriousness

Watson, Warner, White, Clarke, Ferguson, McDonald, Haddin, Johnson, Lee, Hauritz, McKay

Hilfenhaus, Paine, Marsh, Holland/Krezja

Added McDonald and McKay due to being in the subcontinent where they have proved to be effective

Seriously though, is there anything really wrong with the first team?

Take out Clarke and I think you have a good team, NSWers or not.
