Big plans for USA cricket....or not?
Well, we now hear the USACA has cut some deal to
promote cricket in the USA with ODI's, cash infusions, "grass roots" promotion, etc.
I think we've all seen so many failed plans like this in
the past with ProCricket, Major League Cricket, etc. to take this
with a BIG gain if salt. First, what's this Centrex
International organization that's supposed to be running the show?
Never heard of 'em and can't find anything about 'em.
Next, what kind of ODIs are we talking about? More
over-the-hill, washed up, internationals playing in
crappy club parks? Finally, and most importantly, will this
erstwhile "grass roots" promotion specifically target born-and-bred Americans?
From the news report it sounds a lot like a repeat of the
past: everything's gonna be for, by, and of, the expats!
Anyone wanna give me odds
this grand plan doesn't do jack squat in raising the game's
profile with Americans (though it might line the pockets
of a few officials)?
