Bodybuilding & Cricket

Re: Bodybuilding & Cricket

First couple of thoughts...

Gret work on the progressive overload, you have the principle down well and that's critical to success.

Cut the isolation exercises
Cut the 'cardio'

focus on multi joint compound movements for strength (movements, not muscles)
Add a power exercise to the beginning of every session (after warming up)
train the core before the extremities.
use complexes, tabata protocols or interval sprinting for endurance.

Thanks for your input mate.

Liz, any idea how long this new programme will take?

Re: Bodybuilding & Cricket

I'm a little over stretched over half term but to keep you going until I get a chance to work something out, continue with what you are doing but work on Delorme & Watkins sets (3 sets constructed around a 10RM):

Set 1 10 reps @ 50% 10RM
Set 2 10 reps @ 75% 10RM
Set 3 10 reps @ 100% 10RM

Though gains do not start until 100% 10RM, it gives the muscle groups a warm up. Let me know how you get on with them.

As David says, you do need to eventually cut out the isolation exercises, they're just not functional for cricket and his website has some really good articles and exercises for you to follow.

Re: Bodybuilding & Cricket

Had my first training session using the 3x10 method based around the 10RM. The first set was just like you said, a warmup, the second set is where I started struggling and then finally in the last set I really had to push the weights as hard as I could. Pretty intense.

All in all a good workout.
