I've noticed that at the point of delivery my leg is slightly bent, are there any drills to improve it?
Any constructive criticism would be welcomed.
Thanks
Blake

Re: Bowling Clips

hi blake
i think that it would help if you just drop the run-up at training and just focus on keeping your front leg straight, and gradually build up the run up again as your leg starts to straighten.
another piont on your action would be that you fall away a little bit, i think its probarbly due to the bent leg
if you could keep yourself upright you'll get a little extra bounce and a yard more pace.
hope that helps

Re: Bowling Clips

You have a good front on action Blake. The run up is solid, I like it very much and your bowling arm is super.

I am not too concerned about your slight deviation to the left but I am concerned about the bent knees. You must try to make yourself as tall as possible when you bowl... imagine you are reaching up to the top shelf for something really sweet. You must get that bowling hand as far away from your feet as possible. Just think 'tall' when you bowl.

Your follow through needs some work too; your legs tend to go in all directions. After your delivery, run the full length of the net... keep your feet parallel and move directly forward.

When you have managed to sort out these two things, try and take another video and we will move on from there but good going so far. Well done!

Re: Bowling Clips

Shakey - I Couldn't link to your Vids, have you got a description I can search for them with on youtube? OR does anyone know of any clips that show the run up and delivery from the side in slow motion as I'm trying to guide my son through the basics of fast bowling and his action is a bit weird at the moment and I'm trying to pinpoint what it is that he's doing wrong. (He's 10) before you all get too carried away.

I've just looked at some footage of Brett Lee and compared it to my sons action and I've sussed what it is. He goes into his leap via the wrong leg!

For instance - look at this - to me this looks wrong - YouTube - Cricket Bowling Montage 10-07-2007 (SLOW MOTION) and this is kind of how my son bowls, the leap into the air looks wrong to me for some reason, what do you reckon?

He looks like he is jumping more upwards than forwards then when he lands his front foot his leg collapses.

We have a drill shown on video to fix this on PitchVision Academy. If you sign up to Ian Pont's course you can find the answer: How to bowl faster | Cricket coaching, fitness and tips

Re: Bowling Clips

He is not getting it totally wrong. The main issue is the bent front leg which will stop him bowling at top pace but will not make any difference to accuracy.

Re: Bowling Clips

So far he's been pretty positive about changing his action and I've got loads of people making suggestions and offering help to get him on track. I had a go myself today and I was surprised that I picked it up fairly easily and was quite accurate right from the outset. So hopefully over Easter if the weather cheers up we may get to work on it a bit.
