Can England win the 2007 World Cup?

Honest opinion here, even from you Eddie.

England have been nothing short of pathetic in their ODI's recently and may play the odd good game however are sub par and have too many average county players in their team. Rely too heavily on Flintoff, Pietersen and Collingwood to make all the runs. Their batting line-up is very brittle and can be exposed.
The bowling line-up has potential but is too inconsistent. Mahmood has shown bits and pieces whilst Anderson can perform on the big stage but needs more support. When will Harmison become a top line bowler, he has much work to do, he is over rated, find consistency then come back and tell me how good he is.
Surely Monty would be in the ODI side, he can take wickets, Giles cannot.
If Vaughan comes back to the ODI team then they might as well stay home next year.

No chance purely because its ODI, if it was test you might have a chance. You guys lack serious ODI form.

Re: Can England win the 2007 World Cup?

honestly, i don't even think the WC is a blip on their screen at the moment. Their HUGE concerns should be the Ashes, and then we will get a proper view of their ODI form,in the One Day series with Australia and NZ.

if anything, that series will be great preparation for them (and Australia and NZ).

but to answer your question, with their current form, they will only make it out of the first round b/c their are two emerging nations in their group.

Re: Can England win the 2007 World Cup?

England suck at ODI's and we will smoke them this summer in the Ashes and during the one dayers.

lol your a funny man, sajid mahmood sends shivers down my spine, so does the hack kp:(

World Cup. No chance. Ashes. Huge chance.

England can't play one dayers. England can play tests. Don't underrate them.

Re: Can England win the 2007 World Cup?

There is no way that England can win the World Cup. Their ODI form is very, very poor and they have a pop-gun bowling attack at the moment. Harmison is bowling pies, Simon Jones is injured and Flintoff is coming back from injury. This leaves Anderson to shoulder much of the work and the rest are just pie-chuckers.

Re: Can England win the 2007 World Cup?

They have no depth and this is obvious with the players they are bringing into the ODI team.

kp being kevin pietersen? hes good but cannot carry the team, what peeves me off the most is Strauss, Pietersen and G Jones werent even born in England.... ugh i hate it because they dont even look at their own teams before they rattle other cages.... young kid who plays for Lancashire named Simon Marshall, looks the goods, if only england would try him... slow scorer though.

They can win if vaughan is playing

And expect him to get back to his best? No way. Vaughan averages just 28.36 in ODI's, hardly a damaging one-day player. He's been injured for a long time now, you can't expect him to be in top form for the World Cup.

Vaughan expects to be back playing by the third test against Australia, that gives him less than three months till the World Cup after being out of the game for a long time. I can't see him having a massive influence on the tournament. He just isn't a good one-day player.

Re: Can England win the 2007 World Cup?

If Vaughan plays well they have a chance of getting past the first round, but they simply dont have the depth to win the whole tournament! Look at the names Dalrymple, Broad, Bresnan, Chapple and Loudon; not exactly household names. Trescothick is out of form, Flintoff and Vaughan will be coming back form injury. No way!

Jeez, he doesn't anyone else.If the pies he sent down in the Prime Minister XI match are anything to go by we will be able to crown the new Ronnie Irani.Seriously, he was pathetic.

Re: Can England win the 2007 World Cup?

I have my doubts on that. They aren't that good. I reckon that the West Indies have more of a chance at winning it on their home turf.
England won't win. Pakistan and india won't even feature.

Vaughan is too old. He won't have the confidence of playing in the senior side. He should stay in England for a good 6 months and play county cricket just to get his match fitness up.

Re: Can England win the 2007 World Cup?

Vaughan has never played well in ODI cricket, averages 28 in ODI cricket which is terrible.
