Chappell Quits

Greg Chappell has quit as coach of India citing family and personal reasons for his departure. His reign proved to be a rather entertaining one with many ocurances happening during his time in charge of the Indian cricket team. It all came to end after Chappell's scathing attack on the team's senior players World Cup performance which resulted in splits in points of view between Chappell, BCCI board members, Indian captain Rahul Dravid and also other senior team members.

Chappell's contract doesn't finish until the end of the World Cup but he has decided to go now rather than later. It seems he was too proud to be sacked by the BCCI and would rather jump than be pushed.

Re: Chappell Quits

he was always going to get the old heave ho if India didn't win the World Cup - or at least make the final.

India don't win much away from home anyway and if the World Cup was held in India during Chappell's time it may have been a different story.

it'll be interesting to see if the Redbacks speak to him again. I wouldn't imagine they would.

Re: Chappell Quits

No suprise really. The pressure of having the top job of India (and Pakistan) is huge. Media scrutiny and the population pressure will get to the best coaches in the world.

BCCI should put an Indian in charge, let them take on the pressure of their own country.

My thoughts exactly.

It is a job everyone secretly desires but no one really wants. Add head coach of Brasil, England, Argentina in football to that list

Interesting observation. But who? Right now it should be an "interim" coach, who can hold the reins while they do an extensive, well thought out search for someone who can fill the slot long term.

Isn't Ravi Shastri serving as India coach for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh?
