Cricket Protection - Thighs, Chest, Arms, Legs And The Rest

My son is moving up to playing under 15's, 16's and adult games in the 4th XI. He's been advised to get thigh protection. Anyone out there use it and got any recommendations. I'm on a tight budget so cost is a factor. If you have any experience of these I'd be especially interested as they're so cheap...

We bought a pair for Ollie this time last season, just asked him if he uses them - 'sometimes' was the reply ;|

To be honest its a matter of choice and confidence, I know last year wasn't typical with lots of rain and slow, low wickets but I don't think Ollie got hit on the thigh enough to warrant anything more than arnica. That said he did get hit in the chest in the final game of the season and we return to that ground next Saturday so I would imagine he will wear the thigh protector then.
