Denied our Title Defense!

every year we take part in the annual Geeddings Midweek Charity cricket tournament.

Its a 15 - 8 Ball Over event!

Last year we won! Wahoo. This year we have been denied by a travesty of justice.....

Here are the final results:

Now from our point of view yes we played mroe games but we won more as well. There were a fair few conceeded and No results. sadly if you were given a conceeded you get 2 points!

By the way my team is Ware OH. now we have been denied our place in the final on wickets lost countback? even though we won more games.........?

it went as follows:

1. County Hall 9 points 16 wickets lost from 5 matches played (average of 3.2 per match)

2. Broxbourne 9 points 15 wickets lost from 4 matches played (average of 3.75 per match)

3. Ware OH 9 points 26 wickets lost from 5 matches played (average of 5.2 per match)


I feel Hard done by as the two above teams both had games conceeded to them giving them 2 points and 0 Wickets lost so on count back we lost more wickets as we played more games to loose them in!

any thoughts? i hope that makes sense!

That is SO unfair!!! The conceeded games shouldn't have counted as a match "played" at the very least and so they shouldn't have factored into the average!! Would this have made a difference though? If county hall had 16 wickets in the 4 games they ACTUALLY played that's still an average of 4, and the others had 15 wickets in 3 games which is average 5 .... but still - it doesn't seem the fairest way to settle a league!

its rubbish! you would have thought the two teams who won the most games would have been in the Final! Especially as we trashed County Hall in the tournament! (local club rivalry)

I remember in a school tournament once there was a four team group and at the end three of us were level on points at the top with the top team progressing.

And have a guess how they decided who went through! Runs Scored! We had batted second in all three of our matches, which meant that we could only score a certain number of runs.

Stumped's situation is unfair and seems a really convoluted way to sort out a league but wolf's, imo, is even worse. They should have used run rate or runs divided by wickets, not runs scored!!

weve taken it on the chin this year although we are filing for a change in teh rules at teh next AGM!
